Hello all I just got a garmin 440s it has line in and outs for nmea's. What are these for and what devices are included in this? ALso what is ais and dsc? Thank you all in advance.

In layman terms.
NMEA - is a standard that allows other marine electronics talk to each other.
AIS - Will show you other boats around you.
DSC - Your GPS & VHF tied together so you can push the help button and send a distress call with location info.

Thanks that does help alot. Going to look into getting the dsc radio and ais transmitter. Any idea where I can get one
