:smt001 I am a recent inductee to the world of shore power, holding tanks, zinks, and South Shore Harbor. I think I am in love! I have been boating along the Texas coast since putting around Rockport and Port Aransas in my Grandpa's 1978 16ft Boston Whaler. moved to Houston in 2001 and bought my first SeaRay 176 from Marine Max on Nasa Rd 1 and have been playing around Clear Lake ever since.

We just added a 1998 270 Sundacer wide beam to the fleet in September and are looking to get the scoop on how to maximize our fun when it turns a little warmer! I have met a few people arond the dock at South Shore but would love to hear from other folks who are in the area and my have some good stories and inside info on day trips and cruising tips!

It seems that this site has a huge great lakes population from all of the responses I have recieved from my other posts. Let me hear from you!

Apparently, not a lot of boaters in this region on this site. I am located about 4 hrs. north of you but intend to do some gulf boating this summer. lets see what pops up over the next day. I used to haul to port A many years ago, party and fished that area when I lived in San Antonio...

Popeye,

THanks for the line. I am surprised that there are not more Texans on this site. You can't throw a rock in galveston bay with out hitting at least two SeaRays!

Some of my best memories are of running my grampa's old 78 boston whaler thru the jetties up by the light house on mudd island. if you google port aransas the old light house is on the chamber of commerce site. I use to leave from Palm Harbor and take the intercoastal to Aransas Pass turn left at Con Brown Harbor and then follow casueway up to Port A. Damn that was stupid. I was only eleven years old when I would make those trips. If my parents new what I was doing they would have killed me!

It was the early 70's when I was boating in the Port A. area...I had a lapstrake wooden Larson with what was about 125 hp. merc. My most vivid memory of those days was letting a drinking buddy drive the boat and ending up on a sand bar. We hit that bar wide upon, put the entire boat in about 4 inches of water.....Lots of fussing and cussing to fix that mess.....

I love those old lapstrake boats! I bet it rode like a champ. The guy next to us in palm harbor had a pretty lapstrake with a small cuddy. It is still my favorite style of boat. I finally saw an old Chriscraft lapstrake 17 footer that was being restored and I was astounded how sparten they were on the interior and how much flex there was in the hull. I don't know if this is typical but when I leaned on the hull to look in it flexed in about an inch from the wieght of my torso. That must have been a pretty scary thing to plant one on a dredge spoil! I would guess that you lost your buzz fairly quickly!

That old boat had a unique sound when underway..It was in the 20 plus ft. range and heavy. It had a flaired bow which was what got us off that bar. The two of us got our shoulders under the flaired bow and stood up and pushed backward, Moved the boat about 4-5 inches each push. It was a long push----Never went fishing with that guy again.....Question, do you have your boat on a trailer or is it at one of the marinas along NASA 1? I was in that sea ray store a couple of months ago, Looked into slip rental in that area for summer months...

Popeye,

If someone had done that to my baby I would have been pissed! Actually I let a 12 year old kid runup on a oyster bed in Dickinson Bay with about 8 people on board but fortuantly I didd't get stuck. I just trimmed the alpha drive up and made an oyster and mud water feature for a bout 30 seconds and got back in the channel. got out of it with just a few scratches on the skeg. I'm glad I was too drunk to care at the time, hince the 12 year old kid driving... Ha!
