Fyi lenovo sucks!!!

**UPDATE**

Well, first, the good news.... I got my computer back... the mouse and USB ports seem to be working.

Now the bad news.

I still have to atidxx32.dll error. Even though I told them what it was thanks to some of you CSR guys they could not replicate the issue so they just forgot about it. So after another 40min call the guy says you will have to send your machine back to us to service your graphics card. I stated like H3LL I will. They are now sending me a new mother board and graphics card and will have a fellow there in 2 to 3 days... I guess we will see if this fixes the problem.

I hope this will sway some of you away from having to deal with Lenovo and all of the crap associated with them...

Jason I got a sony at wally world, 499.00 new when this goes I will burn it and go get another one.
Would have loved to go that route but to run the software I need to run I had to step my game up. Sorry to say I paid 3 x you and got a huge pos...

Sorry, wont sway me. Have been a Lenovo fan for years, the computer geek that we now have coming in Servicing our units, alos swaers by Lenovo as being the best. I am now on my 3rd X series, Strted with an X40, then an X60 and now an X200 which is now 18 months old. I have a dock on my desk, basically this computer as with my past 2 is on about 18 hours a day. On an afternoon I hiberante it. undock it and take it home, then do another 3-4 hours at home with it. It gets banged around planes and boats, remebers every WiFi connection through thinkpad technology program perfectly, and thats in and out of several airports and factories through China. It is the lightest laptop with the performance and connectability around.
On top of that I run another 4 x lenovo laptops in the office and a Lenovo server. The other 6 or so computers here will be replaced with Lenovo as their replacement time occurs.
Unfortunately bad experience occurs with all brands, and the old adage, a disgruntled person tells everyone a satisfied person tells no-one.

I needed a new laptop - got a HP Core i5 machine on sale at Best Buy for $499 - it was $799 3 days later. It has worked flawlessly. It has been on many airplane rides - taken to Germany - used in some rough situations and never even hiccuped...

Ian, I know that every company has issues. I have had dealings with many different ones over the years and the people at Lenovo have been less then helpful. It seems that even if you tell them the issue the don't fix it. Luckily my rear usb ports work but now my mouse has already started to go crazy and not respond... It did work for 20 mins though. I guess that makes it worth the investment. The people at Lenovo are rude and not willing to help. As I stated earlier I had one hang up on me and also had one promise a call back in 15 to 30 mins... That was a week ago! I understand that companies can have bad service but Lenovo has made an art of it. I have never had the run around nor had to repeat the information as many times to many different people on a single phone call. Every call takes at least 30 mins to speak to a human that will then transfer you to another one that will make you wait 30 more only to tell you they can not help you.

Mike, I give it another month and the SKS is coming out and I will put the video on YOUTUBE of the 50 explosive tip rounds going through this screen at high velocity and chock this up to experience and move on. The money spent on the POS is not worth the aggravation.

Jason, I found your posts on the Microsoft Answers forum. After reading posts in other forums, I think what is happening is after the Lenovo driver is loaded, Windows Update is downloading and installing it's own ATI driver. I've had issues in the past with video and network drivers from Microsoft Updates.

I would recommend the following:

1). Download the latest drivers from the Lenovo web site. Yours is the first one listed in the Video section, it's 125 MB.

http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/us/en/DriversDownloads/drivers_list.aspx?CategoryID=399423

2). Click on the start button, go to Devices and Printers. Right click on your PC (it's listed in the "Devices" section) and click on "Device Installation Settings"

3). In "Device Installation Settings", click on the "No, Let me choose what to do". When you do that, more options will be available. Then click on "Never install driver software from Windows Update". Then click on "Save Changes".

4). This step might not be needed. Try it first by skipping this step. Go into device manager and uninstall the driver for your video card. (Double click Display Adapters, double click ATI Radeon 5650, go to the driver tab and choose uninstall. Check the box to delete the driver software and click OK.

5). Reboot if necessary, then run the ATI file you downloaded.

Crose, I tried what you asked me to do and now I have an error message after the install. I restarted the computer and instantly had the same error message...

Any other ideas? The Tech will be here Friday to install a new motherboard and Graphics card since I guess they are now not separate components.

Jason, is your system still usable after getting the error? mom.exe is part of the ATI Catalyst Control Center. Many of the threads I found on the subject say to do what you just did, uninstall and re-install. At this point it would seem like bad hardware. When Lenovo comes out you should have them check the RAM and the HDD for errors. You could also do this yourself if you want to tackle it. Memtest is a free program but you have to download an ISO file and burn it to a CD. If you know what brand your HDD is, most likely a Hitachi Deathstar you can download they're HDD tools, same deal though, an ISO that you have to burn to a CD.

2 other options are:

1). Disable the CCC on startup. Click the start button and type msconfig in the search box, it will show up at the top of the search window. Click it, go to the startup tab and find the entry(s) for Catalyst Control Center and uncheck the box next to it. Then reboot.

2). Uninstall the ATI program and driver entirely and let windows load it's generic vga driver.

These are just workarounds until Lenovo can fix it properly

Thanks, Chris... I do appreciate the help. I have definitely lost some hair over this darn thing. I just bought two 4gb memory boards that while the tech is in the computer installing his hardware, I'm going to accidentally install my upgraded memory

**UPDATE**

Well the tech just left Strike (what ever the number is now).:smt021:smt013:smt021 He calls Lenovo and waits on hold for 40 mins. Gets a tech support guy and he suggests replacing the mother board. REALLY? I thought we've already done that? So he wants to ship out another mother board and have it installed.

Jason, the tech that was here, excuses him self and he goes outside and I'm not sure what he said to these people but he came in and told me he was going to take care of it for me. He is the same tech that has been here on every service call...
10 minutes after he leaves I get a call from LENOVO ( I about dropped dead
Thud.gif
) the gentleman on the other end said that with all of the issues I am having that I am eligible for a free replacement product... So he said to hang on 2 to 3 days while he pushes my case through and gets a new machine sent to me....
So I will keep you guys updated on where I go from here I am so far behind on my work its pathetic, but hopefully if I can get my machine up and running it will be all good.

(figures I just put 8gb of ram in this machine though, guess I get to see its guts one more time)

Glad they stood up for you.

Too bad it took so many tries to get them to get this right.
