Hopefully one of you tech savy guys can help me. I just installed the Fusion head unit with the MS-BT200 Bluetooth module. Using my hot spot on my phone, I am able to play Pandora through my iPad or phone. What I can't seem to figure out is how do I make use of the Fusion App on my iPad... The iPad say the Fusion unit need to be connected to the Ethernet. What am I missing here? Does the head unit need to have an internet connection?

Sorry Cod,

when my Fusion comes in I can dig in with you. Its been back ordered for 2 weeks now.

Cod,

You need to have a separate router hooked up to the fusion head unit...

above is a cradle point mbr95. It will do WIFI order wan. This is what you need and I highly suggest the cradlepoint.

Hey Jason,
Thanks for the response. So if I understand you correctly, the Cradlepoint will pick up my hot spot on my phone? I have a Belkin wireless router on the boat now but I'm assuming it can't do what I need...

Yes, the mbr95 will pick up the WIFI on your phone. I also had a different router and couldn't get it to work. Not sure on the particular one you have. Do you have a network cable from the current router to the fusion? If so you can connect to the current network but you will loose the hot spot. You can't have both.

I installed a NETGEAR wireless router on my boat. When you plug the router to the Fusion unit it creates a network. My ipad "sees" that network and automatically connects. I use my ipad as my emote all over the boat. It works great.

Norcal,

I agree any router will plug into the Fusion head unit and work but... He is having the same issue I was having. I want to be connected to my network & have internet access through a wireless hot spot. The cradle point was the best solution I found over a year ago. I am very happy with the unit and it was pretty simple to hook up (you will need a laptop or desktop to do the initial set up with the Wifi over Wan). For me if you look in the picture of the router you see the cable. When I get to the boat I turn on my wireless hot spot plug in my device and place it in the cabinet. Then I have full function with an old droid 4 and my Samsung tablet. The kicker is I also have full internet and Pandora streaming abilities which with the BT200 I can also control and skip to the next track! It works pretty good other then it will not show the artist or data through the head unit. If I play from a media library on my phone then everything shows as it should. I hope this helps.

Cod, I'm here to help if you need it!

Why not just get a unit that has built-in Bluetooth? I thought head units like this http://www.alpine-usa.com/product/view/cde-hd148bt
were just plug and play Bluetooth? This is what I was looking at changing to and Alpine is a very good brand. Another very nice unit is this one.... http://www.alpine-usa.com/product/view/cde-hd149bt
I just installed the Alpine UTE-52BT which is a similar unit but without a CD drive. Just wanted to let you know the Bluetooth is essentially unusable on a larger boat. I lost signal stability anywhere outside about 5-10 feet from the unit either vertically or horizontally. It was clearly made to only be used in the confines of a car. The rest of the unit is fabulous. The Alpine's Bluetooth is not an issue for me, though, as I already had a Miccus Bluetooth receiver. I am using it through the Alpine's 3.5mm input. It gives a stable connection regardless of where I have the iPhone on the boat.
