[FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica][FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica][FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica]OK, this is the 1st time I have noticed this.I got a spare filter today and it's a seachoice 20911.It is for a 94 merc 7.4.

I'm looking at this filter and it has 2 ring gaskets...Umm, I'm fairly certain the one I have on the boat(napa 3225 I think) does not have this.It looks like a typical oil filter with a single rubber gasket.

Anyone care to explain this?

This is the exact reason i always try to use OEM parts. You might be looking at two different manufactures opinions on how to build a filter. Napa filters are made by Wix and are usually pretty accurate and i wouldnt be surprised if wix makes a lot of the OEM filters also but i dont know that for a fact. Also some after-market brands will use one filter for 35 different applications so they may not care if its got an extra o-ring. Then there's always the chance that someone put the wrong filter in the box. I just got a OEM filter that was missing the o-ring, so you never know. hope this helps.

If your talking about two "0" rings, and one is considerable smaller than the other, there may be a second "0" ring up inside the filter housing. You may want to get a mirror and look inside the housing. If this is the case, and there's is an "0" ring inside, a pointed dental tool will come in handy. R

Well what I am asking is if I have the right filter.It's a spare.Would suck for it to be wrong when I need it or maybe they make 2 styles.I'm fairly sure my other filter looks just like a oil filter and did not have this inner o-ring nor the lip that holds it.

On this new filter it would take a screwdriver to get this o-ring off.

I'm a bit miffed a this...never seen anything like it.
