I have a 2004 Sea Ray 380 Sundancer and it appears my fuel sender has gone bad. Is there a specific model/brand I need to purchase, or will a generic one from West Marine work, i.e. Moeller?

MY 2006 - 38' Sundancer Starboard anolog fuel gage stopped working.
Is this a grounding isuue or do I need a new float sending unit?
The electronic gages work and show how much fuel I have.
New to me boat so I am new to this.

I to thought I had a bad fuel tank sending unit. Ordered a WEMA brand from Ebay for $59.00 bucks. Turns out the fuel sender signal is sent through the Mercruiser SmartGauge and in the set up configuration there is an option to "invert" the signal. In other words, My gauge was reading empty when it was actually full! Use an OHM meter to test your sending unit signal (its resistance to ground system) with the sender unplugged and the switch turned on the gauge should read empty but if you jump the pink and black wires it should go to full.
