Hello,

Our Sea Ray is recently having an issue at about 2000 rpms it starts to cut out and bog down. We have a rebuilt 260 Mercrusier with only a few hundred hours. It starts, idles and under 1800 purrs great - no smoke, abnormal noise, etc. But when we increase the rpms the trouble starts and it nearly dies - cuts out, sounds like a fuel problem and Here is what we have done

1. Replaced Fuel Filter
2. Cleaned internal fuel tank filter
3. today we are replacing spark plugs

Does it rev through that RPM range at idle OK but bogs/sputters under a load? If so, I think you're on the right track looking at a fuel starvation problem. How's the water separator? If that's changed, or good, since it's rebuilt, I'd check fuel pressure.

If it happens at that RPM or hinger in neutral and in gear you may have water in your fuel. I had this problem with an outboard a few years ago.

Thanks - I think you are right - we changed the water separator and just put an additive in the gas to "dry" the fuel. Or - did you have to drain the tank?
