I have a 1994 220 signature series with a 454 and at WOT it’ll run for a minute then start spittin and sputtering, I’ve changed the filter and water separator, does anyone know what kind of filter or what is on the pick up in the tank?

Is the carb running out of fuel. If you back off a little does it clear up

Maybe but it runs good then outa nowhere it starts that and if I back all the way out then wot till I get on plane the back to 3000 rpm it runs good, kick in the four barrel WOT runs for minute then starts

It sounds like you may have more water than it wants to deal with.
Have you tried dumping the new water separator to confirm the water wasn't replaced from the tank?
Did you drain the carb when you did the filters? It may not seem likely, but is ever possible that you have water in the bowl that isn't getting sucked up until you attain enough RPMs. I had one along the way that would do that.

I’ll check that out, and there was t anything in the separator, only thing I havnt checked is the pickup line and I’ll do it with the carb this morning

Check float bowl level. They do stick. Is it a Holley carb

Not a Holley, so today it ran about 3000 rpm for about 4 miles perfect, then WOT for about 30 secs then starts spitting so back to 3000 and it would run a little less every time, so I sprayed out the spark arrestor with carb cleaner and WOT for a mile then back to spittin n sputtering,

This is not as easily implemented on a non-open type hull, but if you want to rule out the tank pickup among other things, the next step may well be to rig up an external can of good, clean gas to draw from rather than the tank. A portable OB gas tank works well for this, if you have easy access to one. If doing so allows you to run WOT for five minutes, then you will have narrowed the issue down to the tank and its associated hardware. If you net the same result, you may rest a little easier anyway knowing that is NOT the issue.

**Standard Disclaimer** Do not put open, closed, sealed, unsealed containers of gasoline above the distributor, or lean them against exhaust risers, or place them anywhere in an enclosed engine compartment, as doing so may solve your immediate problem but create a newer, bigger and more horrid problem that you may or may not have time and/or need to consider.

Follow Yendor's instructions... and keep the Standard Disclaimer in mind...

If you're getting a flow limitation, then there's several things to consider. First, is flexible lines collapsing, second is the anti-siphon valve being partially stuck or restricted, a crudclogged pickup, or a plugged up vent.

If running the test tank does NOT clear it up, the problem is somewhere between the test tank connection, and the carbeurator... OR, it's not a fuel problem.

Not a fuel problem means it could be an inadequate air intake flow (engine compartment temp high, and not enough incoming air), or an ignition coil that's having a fit, or (if you're getting preignition) too much advance, insufficient octane, or too hot a plug...

Or if the engine temp is rising, a raw water supply hose is collapsing, or raw water pump is missing a vane or two...

What kind of carburetor is it check the float bowl level for proper adjustment if you're draining the float bowls too fast it will never recover and refill them

It was the check valve at the pick up line, piece of debris had it lodged shut, after several taps and blows through the barbed fitting all the shit is gone and she’s running like a top, knock on wood. Thanks for all the input,

Glad to hear it

Thanks for coming back and posting the update!!

big orange is becoming a pest I think
bigorange has polluted more threads than a burst sewage tank ever could!

You can also give us suggestions . . . .
I would suggest that you more fervently consider the ramifications of advertising gone bad, which ultimately and inevitably results in a negative increase in sales.
I am a newbie here by many standards but am at least a casual observer in any case.
I will say I was turned off by your irrelevant and thread interrupting, keyboard diarrhea before I ever even joined the forum. As a casual observer, I have also noted that am far from alone in that regard.

It looks like the management there is competing to make Bud Light's marketing strategies look successful.

100%. I've learned what filter NOT to buy.
