Just got a 2008 44 Sundancer with 8.1s ho gas engines. Port fuel gage shows full tank I know it isn't so. What should I check first? Thanks

There are really only two components that can fail... The gauge and the sender. Depending on your boat one might be easier to get to. For my boat, the gauge was much easier to get to. So, if that's the case for you, then go to the back of the gauge and unscrew the pink (sender) lead. With an ohm meter, check the resistance between the pink lead and the ground terminal. It should read between 30 and 240 ohms and stay pretty consistent. The closer to 30 the more fuel the sender thinks you have.

Next, you can check the gauge by shorting between the ground and pink (S) terminal with the pink wire still off. The gauge should go to full...

The other issue, if you have traditional fuel senders, is that the arm might be stuck. There is only one way I know to check that and it's going to require pulling it out.

This is a mercury smartcraft system. The gauge and the vessel view are doing the same thing

I'm having a similar problem- I just picked up a new to me 2007 310da
With 6.2Horizon the port fuel tank reads good, the starboard is way off- reading less then actual.
I was told it might have been replaced with a non-oem sending unit.

I have an 09 350 and have had 3 fuel senders replaced last time they decided their was a floating ground so they regrounded the sender and I have had zero problems since. It is a known problem with the fuel senders on later date boats like mine from 08 to 13 there were four of us in the same marina with the same issues.

Mainstream, I know this a old post and not sure if you are still a member or boatowner still. I have a 09 350da and one of my fuel gauges is not reading correctly, not sure if your grounding fix can resolve mine, but its worth a shot. I think the only difference between our boats is mine is I/O drives. And my 2 fuel tanks sit on the bow wall of the engine room, right next to the salon.

Where is that floating ground? Do you also know where the sending units are? I can see right above my fuel tanks in the ER, but there is a clearance of 3-4"

Hi
I have similar issues with my 2005 320DA. The gauges on port never shows full despite full tank. The smart craft / vessel view shows almost empty but each tank can only be refueled with around 120l
Does anyone else face such issues with the calibration of the sender ?
