Looking to solve a problem my port side fuel gauge...pegged at 9 oclock- need new gauge or wiring problem?

I suspect you may have a wiring issue, recently found a disconnect behind the dash of our '96 330 'Dancer was'nt mated all the way, caused the stbd. fuel gauge to go full scale empty..if you have the wiring diag's for your boat you can trace the wires from the gauges, perhaps to disconnects in the dash, on the way to the fuel gauge senders on the fuel tanks.. PM me if you like.. I have 30 + yrs of marine and acft avionics experience.. I may be able to help... if you can access the back of the fuel gauges, you can swap the sender wires and see if it's the gauge or ckt.

thanks for the quick reply...I have easy access to the back of the panel/ fuel gauges. Which of the connections would be the sender?

You most likely have bad senders in the tanks. The quickest and easiest way to isolate a fuel gauge problem is to connect a jumper wire from the center terminal on the sender to the ground on the tank. If the gauge on the panel is good, you will get a full reading (pegged) immediately. If it doesn't peg, then the gauge is bad. If it does, then figure out how to get the senders out of your tanks.

Your tanks were produced by Florida Marine Tanks. Call them and tell them your year and model number and they will have drawings for your tanks and can get you the senders that will fit. Also, don't try to use the cheaper, swinging arm senders like you have now. FLorida Marine Tanks has a new design that is a floating puck sender that is easier to install, is more accurate and doesn't fail as often or as quickly.
