I just bout a new fuel filter for my 2001 185. Is there anything I should know before I do the install. or is it as easy as un-screwing the old one and screwing in the new one ?

Any help would be awsome !

Unscrew the old one and be careful not to spill gas all over the place. Coat the seal of the new one with a little dab of motor oil (from your dipstick is easiest) and install it. If you have an electric fuel pump, turn your key a few times to activate the pump and fill up the filter. Then start.

If you have a small amount of gas on hand, you can fill the filter prior to installing it. I sometimes fill mine half-full with Seafoam and gas prior to installing.

What is Sea Foam?

What is Sea Foam?

An additive available at most auto parts stores. Kinda like marvel mystery oil. It can be added to fuel to help clean carb/injectors, straight down the intake to help remove carbon deposits, in the oil to help clean sticky lifters/valves/seals, etc.

It's actually pretty good stuff, IMO.

Do you guys think a new Fuel Filter and running some Sea Foam will help stop my boat from Dieseling when i turn off the ignition ?

Okay, I updated it.

But now I don't know if my boat came with

This weekend may be my last run for the Summer ... should I just wait till spring to do all these fixes ?

Depends... do you want to be doing fixes next Spring or boating right away? I know what I'd choose.:smt001

I usually do the fuel water seperators in the spring to remove any excess moisture that built up over winter.

I change the oil prior to storage.
