I'm getting ready to change out a fuel filter for a Kohler 5ECD Generator:

1) What do I have to do to shut off the fuel supply (if anything)?

2) The manual mentions a Fuel Bleed Tool GM46327 - is this necessary and where can I get one?

Thanks!

Fuel bleed tool is a tire chuck. You don't need to buy the Kohler tool. It is a tire air chuck, with a hose nipple instead of an air hose fiitting. Attach a piece of hose to the hose nipple to catch the fuel. Of course you could just push the schrader vavle with a screw driver, but it will spray fuel everywhere. You should not have to shut any fuel vavles of, unless the fuel tank is higher than the generator.

According to the boat manual supplied with your boat you should have an electric fuel shut off valve for the engine and a separate electric shut off valve for the genset. This is true for my 280DA with the same generator. The default position of this valve is off (see manual for detailed information) as it is tied to the ignition (I have not tested to see when it opens for the genset on my 280DA). My genset is higher than the fuel tank and if memory serves me correctly your 260DA has the genset above the fuel tank as well.

Which filter are you replacing? Fuel/Water Separator, inline, or both?

I would follow the instructions for bleeding the fuel system from the Kohler manual. Be safe when working with fuel.

I will be replacing the both filters.

I have the in-line filter replacement part (River Marine Supply) but I can't find a source for the Water Separating Fuel Filter Kit. Do you have an online supplier sourced with their P/N?

Thanks!
