New Sea Ray owner here, we have a 2000 Sundancer 270 with MerCruiser V8, 7.4 MPI engine.
I recently purchased bad fuel, we have changed out the fouled spark plugs and the boat ran fine after that. I am planning on changing fuel filter today. My question is this, What type of fuel filter does this engine take (I cant find anything in the owners manual) and is it a water separator also, or do I have separate Separators. I'm still getting to know the boat, just purchased it in late Oct.
Thanks in advance for any info.

It is primarily known as a water/fuel separator, but often just referred to as a fuel filter. It's about the size/shape/look of a typical oil filter. Located bottom, front, right corner of engine. It may be inside an easily removable plastic box - although most people never put it back on. Get AT LEAST one extra one to keep on board. Any local Merc shop will have them in stock - Mallory or Sierra are good alternatives.

I would highly suggest pumping out (by hand or a true "fuel" rated pump) about 5 gallons of fuel from the bottom of the tank and checking the quality, just to be sure. Through the fuel sender plate is an easy way to do it.

You're welcome. Just for clarification (in case you were wondering), the Quicksilver that Crazy Lady mentioned is the same thing as Mercury/Mercruiser. Merc branded products can only be sold at Merc shops, while Quicksilver can be sold at other stores. Different packaging and color, but same product on the inside.

There may also be a inline fuel filter in front of the fuel/water separator.
