Fuel Delivery Issue

On my maiden voyage yesterday, we were cruising at about 4000 RPM. Boat lost power and killed. Quick diagnosis discovered that I was not getting fuel from the tank to the water separator/filter.

I removed the ASV and it moved freely and allowed me to blow air outward. It took a little lip pressure but air flowed. Check ball didn't appear stuck.

Removed the hose from the separator/filter and blew through it. Took a little mouth pressure then but blew a little remaining gas. Had black, inner hose color to it. Reconnected everything and was good for a while and then happened again. Did the same and was able to get it off the lake.

I should have replaced the fuel hose when I went through the boat but it slipped my mind. I suspect the hose is breaking down or collapsing under suction, causing the lack of flow. Regardless, I'll be replacing it.

Since the ASV seems to work, I don't think that's the issue but will probably replace it too.

I've read that the pick-up tube has a filter sock on the bottom of it. If so, I'd like to replace that too but visually can't see how that tube comes out.

Thoughts on my diagnosis? Can someone also point me to a resource that speaks of that sock filter and how to remove the pick up tube? Thanks in advance!

Same issues on my second time out. Starved for fuel even after replacing the fuel hose. A good look in the tank and there is a fair bit of rust chunks around the pick up tube the hat appeared to be plugging it.

Removed the tank, flushed it and so far, no more issues and seems to be significantly decreased fuel consumption.

As far as getting it to plane, driver error...just a learning curve but we’re getting it figured out.
