Hi Im looking at purchasing a 1997 290 sundancer powered by twin 5.0 litre TKS mercruisers. Could you advise me at what type of fuel consumption id be looking at please? Thanks!

I think around 18-22 at cruise and probably 34-40 at WOT. How the boat is loaded with fuel, water, waste, gear and people along with sea conditions will also change these figures.

Hello fellow 290 owner.

Is yours the older style with the bow pulpit, or the newer wider style? They made two variations that year.

There aren't too many on the board, so it's good to see another one show up.

I can't help with the fuel consumption yet. I just bought mine about a month ago.

Sounds like the 97-01 style with the 10'2" beam. The older 94-97 gen never came with twin V8's.

I pretty much agree with the numbers above. 8-10 GPH per motor at 3400 RPM, going about 28 mph. So, that's about 1.5 MPG at cruise speed. WOT will be around 18-20 GPH per motor and give at least 40 mph.

Twin 5.0s are perfect for that gen 290. They also offered a single 7.4, twin 4.3s, and even twin 5.7s. The bigger 290 needs the twin V8s to cruise nicely with a full load.
