I am new in boating and just bought a 280 Sundancer. Has any one done this trip? How long does it take? What tips can you give me?

All advices are welcome.

Thank you.

The BIG RIDE

I have made the trip 3 times, but from West Palm. I like to take my time so i stay overnight at Roland Martins Marina in Clewiston (863-983-3151. They have plenty of dockage, and fuel and electric. If yuoi want, you can overnight on board or in a hotel room. They have a small, "burgers & stuff" restaurant. The tiki bar gets busy and there is a band at night, so if yuou want to stay onboard overnight, reserve a spot at the far end. It takes about 6-7 as slow as I go. There is 1 lock to go thru. with 2 that are open most of the time, depending on the lake level. Last i heard, the Rim Cnanl route on Lake O was closed at Belle Glade due to a bunch or sunken boats in the channel. Check with Army Corps for updates.
The next day is about 5 hours (i go slow) with 3 locks I believe.
Its a nice ride, but hot if you go in summer.

Ft L to Ft M

See interesting article, "Making Our Way Around South Florida" by Bill Lindsey in "Southern Boating". Can't recall issue date but fairly recent. Contact publisher @ "Southern Boating.Com" and I'm sure they will mail you a copy. The described journey started in Ft L, then N to Stuart, West across Lake Ok... to Ft Myers, then to the upper Keys and return to Ft L. Article describes a terrific trip. Wife and I are heading to FLorida in November and this one is on the agenda. Probably will go to Key West though, and maybe never return from there. When we were aviation, we flew to Key West all the time. Beautiful, relaxing, peaceful...!!!

Good luck!
