From a Pontoon...to a Sea Ray Sundancer 290

I have a 97 290 with the kohler.I had a similar issue last year-it would run for a few minutes then shut down, After testing all the sensors, I traced the problem to a clogged brass elbow in the manifold, If you have a temp gun, check the running temp of the 2 hoses coming from the manifold. If not, you can probably feel the difference with your hand. There are 2 rubber hoses attached to brass fittings right on top-easy to get to once you access the generator.

Thanks Mark. I'll try the radiator cap idea and I've already ordered a new thermostat to see if that works. I took the heat exchanger off and the anode was completely destroyed and pieces were all in the exchanger...also pieces of rubber from an old impeller. Cleaned that all out and put in a new anode. Still no luck. Funny that your water gets hot coming out of the boat. Mine does not...I concluded that the gen wasn't running long enough to heat up the water, but maybe something else is going on. The gen get's plenty hot, but the water coming out does not...at least not in the 4 min or so it runs.

Thanks Jeff!!!!

starts right back up every time....but still only runs approx 4 min. Inch by inch with help from this forum I'm going to figure it out.

Thanks Lar694, What was clogging the manifold? do you have to take both hoses off the alleviate the blockage?

I found 1 clogged with salt/sediment. the other was clean. I just removed both hoses then unscrewed the brass elbows and cleaned them out. If you water output is not getting hot, you have a blockage somewhere. Sounds like the temp sensor is doing its job and shutting the genes down to prevent damage. An infrared thermometer would be your best fried here. If the impeller is pumping, then its just a matter of finding the blockage. Feel those two hoses coming from manifold-both should be warm/hot. you can disconnect hoses in system to check flow as needed.

I also have the manual home with me if you need anything from it. After re reading you posts, i am sure its an overheat situation and the temp sensor is shutting it down. Your exhaust should be warm/hot in 4 minutes. With it running. follow the hoses and feel-when you find the cold hose you know where the blockage is. It could very well be a thermostat stuck closed.

Super helpful. I'll get into that this week and see if I can find the culprit. Thanks again for your help. I actually have the manual so I'll take another gander at it tonight.
