Fresh water tank gauge not reading properly

:smt100Ran out water last week wife not happy checked it showed full .
So got out the tools to day filled the tank empty 1/4 1/2 3 /4 and full all lit up turn on water and when tank got to 1/2 and 1/4 these went out 3/4 full and empty stayed lit pulled the sending out and did not see anything wrong with it has anyone had any dealing with these is the sender bad are is it the gauge. :huh:

most likely it is a sender problem (top of the sender can be cracked and wet inside, dirty, shorted etc). to check you will need to cut wires from sender and short them to see if display is in working order.

I just purchased a new gage which I plan to put in this weekend. The sending unit in the tank consist if I remember of a tube going straight down into the tank with 4 metal like rods/rails on it which are for the full, 3/4, 1/2 & 1/4 indicators. It looks like the water level make a complete circuit at various fluid heights in the tank. I could not get any reading when we closed the circuit so I assumed the gage is bad which is why I purchased a new one at $44.00 and will update Sunday or Monday the results.

Thanks John keep me posted if it works pulled out the sending unit could not find anything wrong with it and where did you get the gauge

ours is like yours. i pulled the sending unit.
i checked each contact wire to the gauge and had continuity with no cross shorts. i am sure our gauge is bad all so.

would all so appreciate your source. would like get ours working.

I also had some issues so I removed the gauge, cleaned the terminals and then all was OK.

My gage is actually a little printed circuit board that is vertical with the various level indicator on the front, I ordered it from Prince William Marine out of Wood Bridge VA. $44.00 Great people to deal with.

thanks; that's what ours looks like to. it has a test feature. when pressed all the levels will light but that's all it will do
