Got down to the boat today... In zipped it, and oh my god... It smells like a salt water head but I have fresh water...
All bilges are dry..

Any ideas? Could the AC system cause that?

Yup... Checked that.. No bad food either..

I feel like it's comming from the AC vents... This is making me crazy... I've been opening hatchs and looking everywhere

Last year, I had a foul smell emanating from my AC. I couldn't find the source either, but someone suggested using a coil cleaner as the smell could be coming from that. They can get moldy. I never got a chance to try it as the smell went away on its own. My guess is our dry summers helped cure the smell. I also changed the filters and vacuumed around the AC unit as well.

Are any of your batteries hot? A boiling battery smells terrible and is HIGHLY explosive.

The AC pan under the unit. I had the same problem last year the sump was empty but I had a real bad smell. The fitting on the pan drain to the dump was clogged. Smell Almost made me lose my lunch.

Thanks!! I was thinking something along those lines..

That would be my vote as well, considering it was right after entering the cockpit.

A/C drain pan is a good idea too, but you wouldn't feel it in the cockpit, but rather in the room A/C is located.

Let us know what you find.

Batteries are good, checked them today with some sort of spray to see if they are leaking.. All good.. Not hot at all..

Found some standing water in sump pump and lines look full of crud.. Maybe that's it.. Cleaning and Bleaching everything down and will see if that helps..

Need more details:

1. Where exactly you feel it's coming from? You've mentioned in the cockpit, as soon as you enter. Is it still in the same area?
2. Is it always there or comes and goes?
3. What has been done?
4. Any improvements or the symptoms and affect is the same?

How long since you changed the fart filter, has your holding tank gotten over filled before?

Fart filter changed last week and last season...

It's in the cockpit but also in the salon and bedrooms... I feel like it's comming from the AC vents...

It's always there.. It's like a heady smell but I'm not 100% sure

We checked batteries for acid
We checked all hatches.. Dry as a bone..

We cleaned all lines and drains and sump pump box.. Everything is now clean clean... I figured I'd go for a ride yesterday air it out and see... But after a few hours on the boat the smell was back...

I don't think it's the head system... Maybe... I'm going to have it pumped out.. I'm only 1/4 full...

I'm stumped... And now I have the smelly boat :(

Have you thought of cleaning and disinfecting the AC coil. Sometimes stuff grows on them that make the putrid smells. At least spray with a disinfectant (LYSOL or the equivalent) and see if that helps. Maybe even spray into the vents as they may have some crud growing in them. I have had this type of issue in my trucks and this has resolved it.
