A smaller bow thruster (up to 32 foot boat) can draw over 200 amps on 12 volts. That's a lot of juice! I like @The Bill Collector's idea of adding batteries in the bow....the voltage really drops when I use the thruster.
I have two batteries on each engine. Wired in parallel. If I get too crazy with the bow thruster it will stall the engine, or come close to stalling it. Battery voltage drops down to 9-10v with the thruster engaged. I have so far limited how much I use it, due to this issue.
I'm mechanical and no issues, unless I lose all voltage...This can be a very serious thing on a Diesel, if the voltage gets too low while a diesel engine is running, bad things can happen to the ECM. Ask me how I know.
