Mom called me tonight and told me she took him today because he had loss of feeling in his legs and couldn't stand. He's had back problems before and has had pain since around Christmas, but being the stubborn old man he is, didn't want to do anything about it. I have to wait until tomorrow to get an analysis from the doc who did his surgery several years ago. I'm kind of upset about this, but it's what we have to work with now. My sister and her family are doing into town Thursday for a scheduled vacation and I was hoping we could do a longer day trip in the boat this coming weekend so I could get some good practice in with the whole family onboard, but that's probably not going to happen now. The

Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers because I fear drastic changes are in store for him now. I'll update everyone here as I learn more.

I hurt my back in 2008 picking up a boat trailer, ended up going home and then later to emergency room could not get up on my own after few hours. They did a cat scan i tore the muscle very bad but they found a tumor on my kidney ended up being cancer so that dam trailer that crippled me saved my life.. It was stage 3 4 cm tumor that had hit fatty tissue..needless to say it was a very invasive surgery..

prayers to your father...

Backs are no fun, and not to be taken lightly.

Wishing you and your family the best, and an expeditious recovery for you Dad.

I'm one who suffers from back pains so I have a lot of sympathy for your dad. I wish all of you well and for him a speedy recovery.

Wishing him a speedy recovery, back pain is never nice.

Thank you everyone. It's amazing the amount of support felt from people that are so familiar yet I have never met. If you ever see a 450DA with Incognito on the stern, come aboard and you will get a refreshing drink!

They released him today, he can stand and walk a little with a walker. Yesterday his lower extremities were numb and he could not move them. He has an MRI scheduled for the morning to determine what the next course of action will be. He meets with a neurologist after that who did his first surgery. Unfortunately his pain resonates from the exact same spot as the initial ruptured disc about a decade ago. I have urged him to make sure he gets a second opinion and my sister who's a PT will be giving him a full evaluation on Thursday when she flies in. Dad was adamant today that we will all be on the boat this weekend..... Good thing my BIL is a strong guy because I don't think I could carry him from the pier down into the boat!

I will update with his status once I hear what the course of action is. I fear the boat and farming may be very affected by this, however dad would likely build a crane if needed to set him down into the boat if the marina will allow it. Hmmmm. That is a love for the boat.

I had a pretty bad lower back (S1 through to L2) sports injury from when I was in my 20's - of course I was bulletproof and ignored it despite council ...... But I t got gradually worse until 20 years later I was forced to go under the knife.

Best decision ever and have had zero problems since - like night and day ... Really.

So hopefully the Gods see this as me offering positive reinforcement ..... and I do not jinx myself ..... But there is often a solution for back pain today that can work what used to be thought of as miracles.

Thoughts and prayers.

The MRI did show some issues with a vertebrae right above the old injury, and surgery is scheduled for a couple weeks from now. I talked to him today and he is refusing the pain meds until it is time for him to sleep. He still insists on coming to the boat this weekend since my sister and her family will be in town so we will see what happens. I told him that if it isn't working out then we will all drive to their house for the weekend.

We all know boaters are pretty addicted to their ships so it may just be a "get him on the boat" and he'll stay there type of weekend.

Thanks Scott, if you are around this weekend, we may need some help docking if we take it out. I'll let you know if we need some help.

Hope your Dad recovers well, and you all have a great weekend on the boat. Regards to you all from across the pond...Dave

Thanks everyone! Dad does have to have surgery to repair another ruptured disc but is putting it off until after harvest. We spent a long weekend with them on the boat and dad has been getting along very well with a walker. In fact, better than he was before. I'm going to take some time off from work if he needs any help during harvest. After all I should help him out as much as I possibly can.
