I've read several threads on how to fog a fuel injected engine. I have 7.4 FWC Horizons on my 2000 340 SDA. The most popular so far is placing oil in the fuel/water separator. If so, I'd be grateful for some specifics involved in the actual procedure, what type and how much oil, shutting off fuel lines, etc.

Thanks in advance.

Mike

My Mercruiser manual says to do the following:

1) Shut off the fuel line
2) Take off the fuel filter and dump a little gas out
3) Add 2 oz. of two cycle outboard oil
4) Reinstall fuel filter and run engine at idle speed until it quits
5) Take off old filter and replace with a new filter.

I did this and it worked great.

Thats about it.......

My mechanic does it just like that.....except he dumps about 1/2 the fuel out of the seperator.....and uses Marvel Mystery Oil.....been doing it for years like that....and it starts right up in the spring.....a little smoke ...and then its fine.

PS.... Don't forget to be adding A/F at the same time.

I do my engine the same way, but how do you shut off the fuel?

I have been taking off the wire to the Electric Skinner Valve to shut off the fuel. I have not been able to locate a circuit breaker to shut this valve off or any other method.

Thanks. Don, re: A/F. I'll assume that once the A/F starts to show out of the exhaust I power down, then fog. Is that correct? Also I believe the fuel line shut off valve is on the bulk head forward of the engines and is brass?

Mike....... We do the fogging and A/F at the same time.
First we give a good ( garden hose ) flush thru the motors....then set up the fuel/oil mixture......then connect the 5 gallon jug of A/F to the strainer. Shut down the fuel valve and start the process. Do the same to the gen too....except....we just fog thru the carb on that.

Will the engine idle long enough during fogging to allow A/F to flow through system?

Its usually not a problem ( for him ).......you just need to get it all working together .... :) :)

...but you can do the A/F first ....then shut down.... spin on the fogging filter.....then continue.

I have fresh water flush kits on the engines. Not sure if you or anyone viewing this thread is familiar with these. If so, can I execute flushing and adding the A/F in this fashion if boat is out of the water?
