Hello All, I have a 5.7 merc that is TBI. Some people argue about fogging the motor traditionally at the intake or in the Merc manual , they want you to add 2 cycle oil with fuel mixture and run the engine. Has anyone fogged there TBI Merc the old way and did it harm anything? Thanks so much.

Fogging the old way cannot lubricate or protect the fuel handling components in an EFI syste, Use the Merc coctail, which is gasoline, fuel stabilizer and oil, and it may save you hundreds if not thousands when you get ready to launch in the spring.

Fogging oil dries to a gooey residue which protects from corrosion. If the engine has EFI with with the metering injectors on the floor of the intake manifold, as many GM engines do, then the oil pools in the tips of the injectors and dries. The dry oil fouls the pintle holding it closed. This renders the injector useless. Replacement requires pulling the manifold, removing the fuel rail and replacing the injectors. It's not inexpensive.

Best regards,
Frank

I fogged my 350 (5.7) MPI w/ the now famous merc cocktail.. It was fairly simple.. Just pull the fuel filter out of the cool fuel module, dump you fuel, add the cocktail, I used a mit of motor oil, alot of startron fuel stab, and gas.. Let it run for about 5 min, and your done....

Good luck
