Fluxgate compass location

A friend is considering making an offer on a 1998 370 Sundancer. It is not equipped with an autopilot, something he wants very much. He asked me where I thought a fluxgate compass could be mounted. Any help would be appreciated.

My fluxgate compass is located behind the helm dash, in the lower area to the far left on the bulkhead. It works out to be near the middle of the boat.

Thanks. He was concerned that it would have to be in the exact center of the boat, but I thought it had to be NEAR the center of the boat, aligned parallel to the keel.

I was told it should be as low as possible while being as close to the centerline as possible. I mounted mine on my 52' CPMY in the bilge on a bulkhead on the centerline.
