After our first season with our 2009 330DA, I am thinking about maintenance items that should be taken care of before next season. One big red flag is the exhaust manifolds and elbows have never been replaced, and the boat has been slipped in salt/brackish water for 8 years, and hauled out every winter. The tech guy at Mercury told me this is one of the longer periods of time he has heard of cast iron manifolds/elbows lasting in those conditions.
In addition to replacing the exhaust manifolds and risers, I am thinking of having a flushing system installed. For those of you with inboards, do you have a flushing system? Do you use it? Do you think it is worth the effort it will take to flush the engines regularly? Seems like a major PIA, and I wonder if it really makes much difference in terms of longevity of the exhaust system parts. If you have a flushing system on MerCruiser gas inboards, which type do you have? It looks like there is a choice between the MerCruiser flushing kit or a part made by Groco that attaches to the sea cock.
Thanks for your help.
