I'm going to add a flushing system to the engine, Foss Landing Marina always flushed the engine with Salt Away before rack storing it. I'm thinking of putting a tee on the inlet side of the sea water pump with a Groco 1 1/4" brass ball valve with a hose running on the tee up to the salt away flush unit mounted on a piece of starboard out of the way.

Anybody know of another way either better or a kit that's not cheap plastic?

Salt Away says you can flush with salt water but I'd still need to put a tee on it for the unit.

Here's my idea on how it would work.
A) Groco valve on normal sea water thru outdrive.

B) Groco valve turned off to tee to connect fresh water hose to salt away unit, flush engine.

C) Groco valve back to normal on position.

Just need to remember to turn the valve back to sea water pump, guess I'll make a big red sign that attaches to my forehead while rinsing.

Youve hit the nail on the head with your idea..... i used nylon fittings, a ball valve and a quick connect fitting for the hose.. see below

I did it myself this way as i was worried about using the perko kit, ive heard they crack and they look very very light duty... mine will outlast the boat and it works a treat. Just close the ball valve to prevent the water going back down the leg, plug the hose onto the back of the quick connect fitting (which also doesnt flow until you put it on) and then plug that onto the assembly and away you go...
