The news has been predicting for weeks if not longer that we in Minnesota are going to get some mighty high flood waters this year. Living in the Mississippi River Valley on the Upper Mississippi we expect Spring Floods. Today we got a news letter from our Marina jumping on the be prepared band wagon. They are planning for at least 6 ft above flood stage. All the boats in Winter Storage are on safe grounds. Warning was for those putting in their boats about how docks may not be accessible or that debris in water could damage boats, and that the gas and service docks will no be open during high waters. I mean Kudos to the Harbor Master for stepping up and preparing, but damn I so want to just get my boat in the river and be on the water!

A big bummer for you river folks. The last time Tonka was as high as they are predicting the entire lake was a no wake zone for a month.

Of course this is all dependent on this snow actually melting. The way this winter has gone I am not convinced of that. : )

Wow, it's 44*F here in Vermont! LOL Now that's a change! Major flooding going on after this week's 3rd largest snowstorm in recorded history dating back over 140 years! On top of the snow pack we already had that was deep (We were near the highest amount of snowfall ever in that list)

Its been raining here for 2 days. We have so much water with no place for it to go. :smt021

do you mean like this?

Snowing in the mountains again after a week of 65-70F. Go figure. Least we're not on the islands or Japan. Praying for those folks.

Amen, lacook. You can keep that water up north for a while. Your slow melt is helping us out. We just had our chance of exceedance revised down because of the slow melt up north!

The biggest factor for us will be Spring rainfall, though...

Registered, a friend called the other night after speaking with a friend of his in the Corps, and the claim made was that it doesn't matter how fast or slow the snow melts up north, they've never had 7 foot of snow melt before, and they don't want to go on record saying it, but the mumblings are that they still think we'll get the biggest flood ever. Wakeen's in Dav. is already working with the city to find a place to move his boats to, if the owners want to pay for it.

Well I too am tired of SNOW, SNOW, SNOW.... I am sure with in the next 3 or 4 weeks to come I will have plenty of high water pictures to post. A friend of mine works up in Fargo ND, and she told me the City of Moorhead MN hired temp workers and are paying them $10.00 an hour to fill Sandbags. They want like a million sandbags to prepare for what is coming. Of course that is all NORTH of me, and we all know it comes down......

Actually, the water in Morehead and Fargo flows to the North. It does not get into the Mississippi watershed. THe bigger factor is what the Minnesota river will bring to the river.

Probability graph at above website says it all. I'm here in the Quad Cities on the Mississippi and have no doubt we'll see a historic flood again this year. The graph doesn't take into account the potential for an epic rainfall on top of the monumental snow melt. I'm on a flood planning team at work. The plant is only 1/3 mile from the river and we're preparing for something that may exceed the "great flood" of 1993.
