Flexiteek Install -- PICS

I thought I would give a follow up report on the Flexiteek since our boat was launched on May 1st.

Heat: It does get hot but it's not unbearable by any means. I would say it's no hotter than other medium to dark surfaces on the boat. In fact, the tan colored steps and dashboard leading to the bow get A LOT hotter than the Flexiteek.

Fit & Finish: It's holding up extremely well so far. I accidentally dropped the spare anchor on the platform over the weekend and it was unscathed. No dent but a little scuff that I rubbed out with my thumb.

Maintenance: Amazingly easy to clean and maintain. My Magma grill dripped grease onto the Flexiteek while cooking a bunch burgers and brats. The next day I sprayed the area with Simple Green and scrubbed lightly with a brush -- completely removed the stain.

It's a definite conversation starter at the gas dock or restaurant and everyone seems to like the look.

I am very pleased that we had it installed and I can't find a single bad thing to say about it. I would definitely recommend it.

Here it is in the wild:

What is it like to walk on in bare feet when it is in full sun on a hot day?

In direct sunlight on a hot day it is definitely hot, but not any hotter than any other colored surface of the boat. Even my carpet gets borderline unbearable in the hot sun. However, when I spray it with water it will be as cool as a cucumber even in searing heat. It has a natural non-skid surface so it's enjoyable when watered down and it's not slippery.

I really don't find the heat to be an issue at all and don't really think about it during regular use.

Very nice! So how did they do it, do you know? Is it overlayed on the platform...can it be removed? Or did they cut into the platform and flooring to get it installed? It looks very flush. Either that, or it's pretty thin. Do you know how it's attached?
Being a woodworker, I wouldn't mind taking doing this to my next boat...

The Flexiteek is a synthetic laminate made from PVC that has the look and texture of real wood (without the splinters) and it's about 1/4" thick.

It's laid on top of the non-skid portions of the platform and it's not removable. It's glued down with a very strong adhesive so it is quite permanent. It is very thin which makes it almost appear to be inlaid but it's also thick enough to be durable.

It's truly maintenance free and looks as good (better) in person as what you see in the picture. I don't think you can get the product directly from the manufacturer though. I'm pretty sure they only sell to dealers or certified installers.

(I just realized that sounded like a commercial but I really have no connection to Flexiteek. I just think it's a cool product.)

The Flexiteek looks great on your boat. I am interested in possibly doing this to my boat. May I ask what the cost was to do the areas on your boat?

I had Flexiteek on my previous boat, and I can say that on a hot summer on Florida, you could NOT stand on it with bare feet. Now, having said that, we did like the look and durability, and after two seasons in the HOT Florida sun, it was holding up great, and no maintenance issues.

When we would anchor or beach, we would run some water on it to cool it down (the material is not very thick, and cools fairly fast).

But $95-$100/SF????? Wow...that is expensive. It was a very nice product and certainly enhanced the visual appeal of the cockpit.

Don't want to hijack this thread but, nice name.
