Hi All,

was wondering if anyone has Flexiteek on thier boat..
Thinking of doing my swim platform and maybe my back cockpit of my
400 db

From the pictures I have seen it look like the real deal and might be a lot cheaper and lighter then the real thing..(teak)

thought I would check with you guys before I contact my local agent

thanks in advance

Ozzie

i have installed flexiteek in both heads and shower of my 44 dancer and it looks and feels very real in that installation. however i was not impressed when i laid a piece of it on my swim platform, in good natural light it looked man made. plus it does not take on that "wet look" that makes real teak so attractive.

I have it on the swim platform and HATE it. It gets obscenely hot in direct sun. Hot enough you have no chance of standing on it in bare feet. I would never install it in the cockpit area, you'd have nowhere to stand to escape getting your feet burned.

I considered it on my back deck and stairs, but decided against it for several reasons.

1. It costs about 2/3 to 3/4 of teak. If I'm that close to real teak, buy the real teak.

2. It's probably a superior material to teak in that it does not require maintenance, but it's just not as convincing as the real deal. If it looks like teak, it should be teak.

3. If you look closely at how most installations of the Flexi Teak are done, they simply lay the material and cut out for hatches, etc. Real teak is laid with a band around the edges and hatches.

I'm sure there are people who like it, but my opinion is that it's close, but just not convincing enough to merit the costs and shortcomings.

I have been looking at another material and testing the samples, but I have not actually installed it nor do I know anyone who has used it on a boat.

take a look at www.plynyl.com

.

you can option it to be outlined, it just costs more and most installers cant be bothered with it.

I dont like it myself.

We install Flexiteak and NuTeak and other synthetics and real Teak decking. I also have a Synthetic on my personnal boat as decking material and it works great, feels natural, looks natural wet or dry, and is so easy to maintain. I can't say enough great things about it and the compliments I get. I can't say too much cause I'm in the buisness, but I do not have Flexiteak on my boat! I have heard it looks fake, plastic, and unnatural. It also doesn't feel like natural teak. So I have heard. But I do have a synthetic blended product.

Just curious of what brand synthetic you have installed on your own boat because of all the brands out there, Flexiteek is the most natural looking and feeling. It has the texture of real wood without the splinters and does not look fake by any means.

This is an odd response...you say you install Flexiteek but you "heard" it looks fake, etc. Have you actually installed it?

Well, if there was yet a other reason to (other then the fact that it looks fantastic, wears like steel, no slippage..LOOKS BETTER THEN REAL TEAK) then the bottle of GREAT tequila that you get as a 'thank you' makes the deal that much better. A great company that stands by there product! Do it!

I have it in my cockpit and I love it!
I would have installed it even if it was as expensive as real teak, just for the maintenance!

I installed it a few months ago on my 460DA. Did the swim step and entire cockpit. Went with the white caulking. Love it so far. It does get hot in direct sunlight but so does real teak so it doesn't bother me. The look and feel are well worth it...

Charlie is great to deal with and down here in SoCal George from Biddle shipwrights did a perfect job installing it
