Just installed a 19" Flat panel w/DVD and digital
tuner (ebay $280.00) in a 1998 330DA, thought I would share. Picked up the mount also on ebay (20.00). Designed as a ceiling mount, so had the local machine shop cut it down ($10.00). Bolted through the mounting board, then bolted the mounting board through the swivel for added strength. Took all of thirty minutes. Very sturdy install, and retain the pull out and swivel of the original. When pushed back and locked, the TV is braced and does not move. TV has built in digital tuner and picked up 9 HD channels with stock antenna! Anybody need an old 13" Panasonic w/VCR??

What does it look like when retracted? I won't change the TV out because I think it's going to look like hell.

I think it looks just fine. Almost stock. The only draw back I see is you can't open the closet door with the tv retracted and locked. Didn't take a photo straight on and locked, will do next time out.

Do you have a link for the mounting post/bracket. I am in the process of changing my tv and have been leaning toward the Ram Mounts but your set up looks stronger.

I would think that a problem such as not being about to open the adjacent locker would be a red flag to a prospective buyer. A buyer might wonder, "What other hidden kludged up modifications are on this boat?"

I don't want to even begin to give the appearance of a wingless boat that a buyer would suspect numerous modifications without proper planning, including planning with respect to NMMA and ABYC specs.

Badly executed updates, repairs, and modifications can, at the very least, be a hazard to my wallet come resale time. At the worst, they can be a safety hazards. Almost good enough isn't good enough.

Best regards,
Frank

The newer boats with the flip down TVs get in the way of opening the galley cabinets when they are in the down position.

Nice Job. I can't help but notice the UNC channel in your pix. Are you by chance in Wilmington? I was there this week end. Beautiful place.

Frank,

If you are concerned about the retrofit, a 15 inch is almost a dead on retro. I picked mine up 2 years ago in Target as an open box special. It is in the Wilmington home right now. I have to redo the measure twice cut once thing about 5 more times, however I am looking at less than 1/2 inch all the way around to make the TV fit as an original install. Mine is a 2005. I'm not sure if it has a digital tuner or not. Unfortunately it is 120V. I am looking for a 12V model so I can watch the news on the hook w/o the gennie running.

I have been netless since 12/31. A belated Happy New Year to all.

I installed a 19" Toshiba flat screen on my '95 330 DA last week. Similar set up except I used shelf brackets <L brackets> from Depot/Lowes, about $10 total. I did move the TV to the left to clear the cabinet door <it just fits>. My goal was to keep the locking & swiveling features of the orginal TV. It may look less costom then a the orginal TV, but the appeal of a new 19" flat screen vs the orginal 13" old style far outweigh any perceived negaitives. And the TV picture is GREAT! A huge improvement over the stock TV, and yes, many more channels with the existing attenna and a MUCH better picture. The only disappointment was that I was using it underway yesterday to watch the football game, but the reception on a moving boat is not as good. I also hooked the TV to the sterio so I can listen to the football game...ah..TV in the cockpit while underway while others were watching it. The best $300 upgrade I have done to this boat. Oh, and I ran it off a 100 watt inverter yesterday. Buy a reg TV and the inverter for $50 and you'd be set.

David,
In North Myrtle Beach, but pick up Wilmington station perfectly.

Frank, ease up...I did the work on my boat, not yours.

Jamie

On our 330DA I placed the flat screen TV stand right on the existing swivel. Worked perfect. I turn it sideways to push it back into the locker and stuff pillows on each side while underway. I did not need to purchase any kind of arms or brackets.

I did this conversion last summer, my first season with my 97 330 DA. I put a 15" Toshiba LCD/ DVD combo in the same spot the old TV was. I was able to drill thru the base of the mount and screw it right to the stock swivel base. The width was perfect as the tv recesses in the old opening. There is a couple extra inches of space at the top but not unsightly. I also added a KVH tracvision satellite and mounted the receiver on the swivel base right behind the TV. I used the cabinet wall to mount various other electronic components to feed a total of 3 tv's with two receivers. One is a home receiver that requires a signal destacker and a splitter with a DC block. I also had to utilize an RF modulator to convert the component outputs from the receiver to a standard cable jack. It all works well & I get all the same channels I get at home. I did not have any luck with the Glomax antenna which was a contributing factor to the satellite conversion.

WOW I'd like to see the KVH install sound interesting. I like that orginally posted mount too bad I missed that. I too went the Home Depot mount method. As far as fit I replaced mine with a 15" DVD combo and it fits perfect width wise into the opening. I think in addition to that Toshiba I found a Kodak and Naxa model with similar dimensions.. I also wanted a AC/DC TV too.

Hey Tom,
I am actually heading to the boat tomorrow. It is inside the shop for some gelcoat work so I am taking advantage of the protection and trying to fix my sliding cabin door as it seems to be hanging low giving me grief with latching & unlatching. I will pop some pics when I'm there and try to figure out how to upload them here. I'd be glad to share them! Todd

Are those aftermarket "window shade" hatch screens?

Yes, the shades were installed by the previous owner. Don't know who makes them, but they work great. Slide one way and they are screens to keep the bugs out, slide the other way and they are privacy shades and really keep the cabin cool by blocking the sunlight.
