Can someone direct me to a place I can find a quality stainless steel flag pole mount to fit my 360 Sundancer. The rails are 1 1/8" and the only ones I can find resemble more of a "C" clamp and not a quality piece.

I'm writing from my iPad, so I can't see the OP's details. My apologies if this does not apply.

Flying an Ensign (US flag) should only be done in two locations according to proper etiquette. The first being the stern, the second being the masthead. Masthead can be interpreted as the highest point on the boat. This could be on a GPS, or top all around white light pole. Flying the Ensign from a mount on the bow rail is not considered acceptable as this location is meant for club burgees and other lesser flags.

I just purchased and installed the Southco magnetic flag pole and magnetic base. This is the factory setup for my boat. The flag pole was easy to source through Ebay. The base was much more difficult. I had to get it through my SR dealer, and it wasn't cheap. ($80) Anyway, it looks great, and seems to be very sturdy.

Do you have pictures?

For flying Yacht Burgee, etc. on Bow Rail, The Original Swiveler beats all others out there, no questions asked.

For stern mount, the Southco pole and mount and nice.

attached is the photobucket link to an album i created that shows my setup with the Southco mount

OK, not to be disrespectful, but this flag appears to be very undersized. From what I've read, the "fly" (long side) of the flag (in inches) should be at least as much as the LOA (in feet) of the boat. So for your 280DA, you'd want a 30" long flag. For my 320DA (35' LOA), I would get a 36" long flag. (Here's my source: http://www.usps.org/f_stuff/etiquett.html#size-of-flags)

I don't have any holes in my boat in which I can insert flag poles, and no desire to cut any. So the only place I have on which to mount an ensign is the transom locker rail. The tip above on the Swiveler is much appreciated. I just hope those things are sturdy enough to fly a 30-36" ensign while cruising on plane!

Does anyone else fly a correct-sized ensign from a rail socket?

No disrespect taken. I am aware of what etiquette suggests, however I chose my flag size (16" x 24") for 2 reasons. 1. the 20'' x 30'' flag in my personal opinion looked awkwardly big for my boat. and 2, I wanted my setup to reflect the Sea Ray factory setup which, according to my parts manual is 16" x 24"

That's a good point, and I have been wondering about that. I don't want my boat to look like the fire truck in the 4th of July parade! I didn't realize Sea Ray had a recommended size. I wonder what mine is? I'll check the manual, then Google. Thanks for the tip!

Used the Taylor Made mount and pole. Stainless and looks great. 16 x 24 flag is the size I used for our 340. Mounted on stbrd side stern near cup holders. Out of the way and bottom of flag is about 1 inch from base when no breeze.
