I'd like to install a stern flag pole. Not sure where to mount it and would like a flush hole so when I remove the pole nothing protrudes. Anyone do one and have pics?

I added one to the handhold along the trunk on the transom

. I think it's made by Taylor Made.

IMG_1960.JPGWe drilled the hole with hole saw and used 5200 for the install because the long arm of the flag pole places a surprising amount of stress on the socket. You also need to eye ball the location to check the esthetic before drilling. Sometimes dividing the beam by two does not look quite right.

That looks nice. What base is that?

Got it at a ships store at Walstrom Marine in Harbor Springs, MI. Bought the pole and flag there as well. The base is stainless steel and none of the three items are anything you could not order from a catalog or pick up at West Marine. Look for a stainless base as the chromed ones will pit.

We also used a piece of stainless bow rail for base of the flag pole. It was scrap from a boat that was in an accident. Cut a 2" piece off and installed it on the bottom of the teak pole so it fits snugly in the socket, and does not rattle out when cruising in rough water.

Thank you. That is exactly what I'm looking for. It seems that product is discontinued though. What length is that flag pole?

Mine didn't come with a flag pole either. Ordered the following from Marine Max just before Memorial Day. Fits a 2'x3' flag. I got the part numbers from my Parts Manual.

1190354 POLE, FLAGSTAFF YACHTS AFT SS 40" $107.99

685313 SOCKET, FLUSH MOUNT STERN FLAG POLE $131.49

This flag pole looks like the one posted by Importmonkey w/ Tapered Point.

I originally wanted a flush mount pole base but I have read more than one story about the poles not fitting snuggly in the flush bases and at cruising speed the flags getting blown out of the base and lost in the water....expensive loss....so I decided to use a raised base with a thumb screw so I can secure the pole in the base....

I have the flush mount, original from the factory and like CliffA mentioned, I am one of those that lost my flag and pole while underway due to it not being a snug fit.
I have since, added a mount to the rear transom rail much like the one DPVANDY01 posted a pic of.

I think it depends on where it's mounted. Ours is in a flat section of the rear rail vs. on the slope of the transom. We are probably doing around 26-27 knots in this shot and other than wear and tear on the flag can do that for hours without losing the flagpole. Friend with a big Formula runs with his on a sloped transom with no issues, so maybe it is boat specific.

Was yours the magnetized pole and socket that comes from the factory?

Hello Guys, I would advise you to use the flagpole light on a yacht or a boat if you have, that would be something good for your personal sense patriotism and american freedom while swimming thourgh by the sea and the waiving flag would bring up good mood and a nice attitude to the people who are struggling regarding showing the emotions of patriotims or loving you country, and on top of that, this looks very good and original on a boat, hence you could amaze your reltives or firends who come on the board. So, so you can combine the useful with the pleasant
