BTW, if you get a proper sized flag for your boat (I have a 210 Select), the flag will be too big for the stern light fixture mounted flagpoles. I had one. The drag and vibration from the flag (while cruising) caused the pole to wiggle loose and I lost the pole and flag. Luckily, it wasn't my stern light. I would stick with one that is securely mounted somewhere or use my method .
That's a good point. But, if the flag is only put about half to 2/3 the way up the light pole, it'll be fine. I've done it with the flag all the way up and it's been fine. But, then I thought it might not be a good idea to have it that far up, so I lowered it. A number of my customers (actually quite a few) do the same thing (1/2 to 2/3) and it's been OK. But again, good point - thanks for bringing it up.
I had the dealer install a mount on the transom just above the swim platform on ours. Not the least expensive way to go but it is a very sturdy pole & mount that doesn't interfere with anything. If I remember right it was around $180 or so for the flag, pole, mount & installation.
