I have owned my 73 240 cc since 74. I now need to do some repairs on the transom and stringers. The plywood on the back transom had rotted which I have now scraped off. It is now cleaned up to the fiberglass. I noticed that my stringers had rod inside so now this is my challenge. There is a fiberglass box around my stringer approx. 5" wide by 4" high which attaches to the inside bottom of the boat. The engine mounts are on top of this box, underneath the mounts is 1/4" of fiberglass then 1" of wood that the mounts screw into then 1/4" of fiberglass then wood to fill up the cavity right to the bottom. My question is I know I need to replace the wood under the mount but what about the bottom wood. Is this for filler or structure?????:smt100

Not familiar with your boat... maybe some pictures would help. General rule... if its rotted, replace it.
