Fix Deteriorating Black Backing on Carpet

IMG_0551.JPG My 2008 240 Sundeck has snap in carpeting. In 8 years the black backing had deteriorated and was falling off. I cleaned and removed as much of the backing as possible and applied white Flexseal to the back as a new coating. It has been three seasons and the Flexseal is completely intact and flexible. Plus there is no more black residue anymore. Great fix. Passing it along. I clean the carpets with Simple Green and hose them off each season. They are in great shape.

Great find. How much does the the Flexseal cost for the quart? I've done a similar repair with Elastomeric Roof Coating and it has held up very well for $19 for 0.9/gallons.

Must be something in the air.....I just started on my carpet backing today as well with Flexseal! Glad to hear it is durable and lasts. I am buying it in the spray can form and am paying $12.99/can at a local discount place. Seems to take about 2 cans per larger carpet. I am trying to go over it 2-3 times/coats. I read about using Flex somewhere here on CSR.

And you can fix the hole in your boat with the left over. :)
