Fishing Trip Canceled

Man! I come down to Mexico Beach for a wedding and chartered a boat for some fishing on Monday. I get a call from the Capt'n this evening saying the seas will be too rough to go out sunday monday or tues.:smt021

I said let's just wait and see. hoping for good weather!!!!

They are calling for 15-20 kts out of the NE with higher gusts.......you don't need to be off shore in that. That is usually 5-7's and you'd be holding on to more than a fishing pole in that.

If you can drive 30 miles over to Panama City, I know 2 excellent guys who run "guide" boats........smaller outboard powered boats who will put you on fish in protected waters. Panama City is protected by barrier islands, Mexico beach is not. Both of these guys are locals, fished these waters all their lives, honest, sober, friends of mine that I'd send my kids out with. You need to take Frank up on his idea. The way the geography is around PC protects the Gulf waters within a few miles off shore from winds from the NE. As Frank said, it's the oreintation of the barrier islands. You might be surprised to find that up to a mile or two out the seas may in fact be smooth with winds out of the NE.

I know here on the East coast when winds are out of the West or SW as high as 20 kts the seas will often times be smooth near shore because of the protection provided by the mainland and barrier islands.

If you really want to fish, contact Frank...the Local guys who fish that area will put you on the good stuff.:thumbsup:

I hope things improve so you can go out! If the weather guys are anything like they are here at home, they have the same chance of predicting what is actually going to happen using a map and some darts! So much for fancy computer models!:huh:
