Fished the Salmon Stakes salmon tournament on Saturday out of Harbor Beach MI, then fun fished on Sunday before buttoning up the boat and heading home.
Surface water temp, 46 degrees both Sat and Sun. The lake is the same temp at least out to 120 fow.
Spoons were the best bite and high lines and light cores in 2's, 3's and 5 colors were the best.
Sunday we landed 2 lakers 12# and 17+#, an atlantic salmon, a 8.7# walleye and a coho. We won the biggest laker prize for the tournament with a jumbo 17.35# trout that came in 27 fow on Saturday on a 3 color lead line/spoon combo. The rest of our fish came in the same pocket in front of the harbor. Our walleye placed 5th.
We were rewarded with $500 and a really nice trophy.
On Sunday we slept in and set lines around 8am, heading deeper and finding the fish in 55fow straight out of the harbor. Surface temps had not changed, maybe cooled 1 degree or so. We landed a 14 lb trout, two really nice steelies and lost a line ripping king. Fish were all full of gobies.
Another tournament coming this weekend!
Lots of salmon and trout caught this weekend. Lake Huron is showing some great signs of recovery.
Sit back and enjoy some nice pics:
The ole 268, loaded, polished up and ready for the tote to Harbor Beach.
My dad with our big trout.
Atlantic salmon
Slob walleye
Win'in some bucks!
14# trout on Sunday
One of the chunky steelhead
More reports to come after this weekend....stay tuned..
