Fishing from a Sundancer?

Exactly - the piece which is mounted to the deck is just the flush plate. The eye hook goes in and turns 90* and then the turnbuckles attach to them. So when the cooler is not in use it's just the small deck plate which only rises about 1/8" inch. It's a pretty nice system - I've had no issues at all.

I'm looking for similar help, but my bigger issue is rod storage in my '06 280 'dancer. Stored rods in a rod case in the mid-cabin. Guessing something slid against it and now my new G Loomis is not 5-inches shorter. Only have the boat about 6-weeks, but haven't found any reasonable place to mount rod holders. (Cooler on swim platform was a gimme). And please don't say I should have bought a fishing boat. I wanted a fishing boat. Wife wanted a 'dancer. We compromised and got the 'dancer... but I'm allowed to fish on it. I'm sure at least some of you know how that goes. :smt009

I have fished from every SeaRay Sundancer I have owned, which is four now. Here is the current set up:
BRC2012.jpg

The rocket launchers and the rod holders on the arch are held on by SeaSuckers and work very well. All fishing gear comes off when not in use as in my sig pic. There is a perfect removable setup. Complete with "SHUT UP AND FISH" flag.

Good Luck.

You are definitely fishing in style Gary!

Hey anybody try fishing off a 2003 320? I was thinking to remove seat cushions store in cabin, and having made cheap cushions just to lay on top of the stationary base, put rod holders on transom handle and possibly add 2 fish holders on starboard and port side. I love 320 but do want to fish. Any input would be great!

On my 310DA, I added an aerator to the "ice-chest" located in the wet-bar. I then added straps to the upper canvas rails, port and starboard, to keep my extra rods up and out of the way. Finally, I supplemented the massive cockpit table with a small 18" octagonal one to make moving around the cockpit easier (and safer).

On earlier Sea Rays, you could fold down the rear bench. I may look into a possible mod to do the same. My fishing style, is more about dropping anchor and fishing off the stern with a choice beverage in hand. Not so much hard-core game fishing.

As a bonus, you can swivel the helm seat 180°, providing a high throne to watch the rods and lord it over any on board minions.

i saw this sundancer set-up for fishing a couple years ago while traveling up North somewhere. I believe it was a 470DA.

Story time!!!
My buddy took co workers out for a day of fishing. On his new 320. So he driving to the place to catch fish.
Not paying a lot of attention all having good time. They get to the fishing grounds (why is it called grounds when its all water? But back to story) only to find his guests had taken all the lures out of boxes and hung them by sticking the treble hooks into the bolsters and upholstery.
Hilarity did not ensue!
You cant make this shat up!

Your 320 has somewhat similar layout to my 97 330 and has some flat areas on the gunwales for rod holders. I fish all the time on my 330DA. Mostly downrigger trolling with Walker downriggers and rod holder mounts for them. Each downrigger has two rod holders so I can troll 4 rods and that is enough for me given our regulations on Georgian Bay (one rod per anger is the limit).

I installed the 30 degree rod holders myself. It took some thinking and measuring to get the spot right (I wanted them as far aft as possible, and only one per side). If I was to do it again I would use 15 degree (easier).

I take the carpet out of the back of the boat when I go so I can clean up better. I don't remove the rear seat, but I guess I could. Its a bit heavy but does come out/off.

Trolling for Chinook salmon you need to run between 2 and 3 mph, which means on one engine with my 454 v-Drives. I alternate to keep the hours on the engines close.

Here are a few pictures.

Hey thanks, the 2003 320 dancer has seats both on the stern and starboard side that don't remove, only thing you can do is remove cushion. np with fishing rod holders can attach 2 off the transom rail and one on each side. Thanks for your input.

See the Bikini forum for the proper species that is fished for on a Sundancer....... Amberjacks are good for blood and guts.

Not that any of the old farts on CSR have any chance at landing the species in the bikini forum, but I would advise against fishing for them unless you are already past your last wife, or are looking to divide your assets in half (again?).

Can anybody tell me is a 6.2L twin vdrive inboard engine sufficient power to pull a 2001 Sea ray sundancer 340? Is a 7.4L better?

Yes and yes. The 6.2s will rev like hell but will get it on plane and run it. The 454s Have more torque and will be better suited. Fuel burn will be similar on plane. My 330 is basically the same boat. I would not want it with 6.2s.
