We made 70° today on Lake Allatoona. The water was still 42°, but we got out. Had a nice raft-up with dobson's new 380 (Endless Summer) and Sue got her kayak in the water. We were leaving at 5:00 PM when JediJD passed by in his beautiful 380 (sorry - didn't get a picture). Water is nasty brown this year from the rain. First time in a suit this year - Looks like losing another 25 lbs is in order!

Sorry Gary - we both "forgot" to raise our antennas! Damn lake boaters.

Sorry that we were too slow getting there. Had a great day on Allatoona as well. We'll be more efficient next time.

carter that was i good time, a little nauti sorry we missed you. i didnt realize sue was taking a picture when i was on the phone

Great pictures guys, I bet there was alot of traffic on the lake today. We took advantage of the nice weather to start on our spring yard work so when spring finally does arrive we are ready for the lake.

Hey Jim,

We saw your boat in the slip, but "no activity". See you on the next warm weekend!

You guys are lucky - have been playing "Ax Man" with a chain saw for the past couple of days. The floods from last fall undermined the roots of this tree and it was leaning towards the dock walkway.

I made it out for a nice cruise to the Buckman Bridge and back, refueled also before going out. It was my first solo excursion out. Came back and washed the boat Saturady. yesterday I mounted teh the new Sony Marine remote. The marine electronic company which was suppose to have done this...well let's just say they have not impressed me.

I had no issues, but I am going to be going back out for more maneuvering practice.

Practice, practice, practice

Isn't that floating dock supposed to be, well, you know.....Floating?

Is the level somehow controlled or is that a naturally occuring phenomenon?

That lake is controlled by the CORP and I think it drops something like 30+- feet doing the winter. Most of the lakes in this area are either GA Power, CORP or TVA lakes and all of them are man made and controlled. Like our local lake is a head water lake (No other lakes flow into it) for the TVA We go down about 12-15 feet for the winter.

The TN river valley system is controlled by the Corps of Engineers. On the upper end, Cherokee Lake at Morristown, TN for example, the winter pool will drop 40-50'. On the lower end, Pickwick for example, the levels are hardly noticeable, perhaps 4-5'. It's a flood contol thing. In the spring when the river is rising, you get all kinds of crap floating down the river from the Spring rains and the rising water.

Who told you the TVA is contolled by the CORP??

From the TVA site.
The Tennessee River system is managed through a series of dams and navigation locks owned by the United States and operated by TVA and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. In accordance with the TVA Act, TVA is entrusted with the possession, operation and control of the dams and all related buildings, machinery, and lands, with the exception of the navigation locks which are operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Only the locks are operated by the CORP. Heck I've had deals that we had to get papers signed by the CORP that they don't have any control over the lake or shore line.

WOW That 380 looks huge compared to our 340.

Great pics, Carter. I agree with the size diff. 2 feet is only 2 feet, but it's 2 feet longer, a foot wider, and taller too. Then, you go another 2 feet....

I can honestly say that no one told me that. TVA generates and sells the electricity, and, you are right, the Corp operates the locks. TVA could care less what the water levels are, as long as they produce a profit, on paper at least. The Corp just wants to keep building dams, needed or not.
