Hello Everyone,

My wife and I just bought a 1994 Sea Ray Laguna 16SC with a 60HP Mercury outboard last Monday. I think I got a good deal on it. Boat, motor, and trailer for $2700. Boat is very clean, motor starts right up. Does that sound about right?

Well, yesterday I took it out for the first time in the sound at Topsail Beach, NC where my family owns a cottage. The whole adventure lasted about 45 minutes.

First, I had problems on the ramp. Remembered the drain plug as my wife was backing me in. Got that put in, then backed in the water, started the motor, put it in reverse, and remembered the boat was still attached to the trailer! After I got unhooked, I started floating away and couldn't get the motor started. I had to throw a line to a stranger and have him pull me to the dock. Of course, then the motor started fine.

Then, when we finally were underway, I went about 200 yards and ran aground on a sandbar. It was easy to get off in reverse, but then when I went in a different direction, I hit the sandbar again! I repeated this about 10 more times before creeping back to the dock and giving up.

So, next weekend will hopefully be better!

Welcome to the boating world and CSR. Looks like you did it all on your first outing. No plug - check, no start - check, towed in - check, and sand bar - check. :smt101

Next week should go smooth as silk.

Thats cool what make ??. So before it reads 0 feet of water go the other way.

As OldSkool said, welcome to boating. That stuff can happen when our nerves get the best of us. Don't sweat it and try to have fun. Don't take this the wrong way but you might consider taking a boating course from your local Power Squadron or USCG Auxiliary. You want to have fun and be safe (your own safety and others).

Welcome to boating! Have done all those, more, and still learning. Relax and take it all in stride. Its all worth it.

Taking a safe boating class is a great idea. Even if you can't attend in person, there are some excellent online courses that are free and provide tons of great info. In Tennessee the state offers an online course which is very nice and free.

By the way...this forum is a great place to learn from other folk's experiences.

Happy boating!

Welcome aboard.

Just have to ask. Did you come up with your name on here before your first experience or after?

Welcome aboard!

You have it all out of the way now, so sit back, relax, and enjoy the new toy.

I would have to agree on the USPS course as it helped me out immensely. Lot's of info here as well ... have fun!

Welcome aboard. Make sure to take pictures next time(Grin)
