Well, what a great day. Put in downtown Dubuque, Iowa and went downstream to Bellevue and back. Had a great day on the river with family. I am so amazed at how quite this thing is. You can have a conversation at 30mph and the motor is really just purring along.

River is in minor flood stage, so its pretty high. Hopefully by next weekend it will be down. I am guessing a lot of folks will be out starting next weekend. Saw about 8 south bound tugs/barges, its amazing how friggen huge they are and the wake they can kick out.

Looks like everyone had a nice day afloat. Thanks for taking us along so we could see what your stretch of the river looks like.

I will take some more video next weekend when we are out. The Dubuque area is really amazing on the water and plenty of nice boats, amazing bluffs and crazy houses overlooking the river. (I want one).

I hope to someday explore the Mississippi down in that area. This year we will probably stick to the MN/Wisc section. Thanks for the video!

Looks like this coming weekend is going to be outstanding! The river level is forecast to be right about the same next weekend. We have a slip in that pool and frequent that pool as well as the one north which has some outstanding beaches!

I need to pick the brain of someone who knows these waters. Where are the good beaches you speak of? Where is some good water for tubing and swimming? (sand bottom? deep enough to swim? etc)

Thanks for any advice you have. This was our first time out on the river and I have a lot to learn.

Well, we had another great day (mostly) on the river. Went north of lock 11 and up to Guttenberg. River was still high, and unfortunately we nailed a large, mostly submerged, log.

The boat is at the shop, so I dont know the total $$ damage, yet, but I scraped some paint off the keel, about 2 feet, 1/4" wide, no chips or dents, so thats good. I did nail the outdrive and busted some little metal parts off the front of the upper casing. The lower is scratched up a little but the props (Bravo 3) and lower unit look good otherwise. Im sure it will be a couple grand at least to fix.

So, the boat still seemed to run fine, the video above was shot after we hit the log. I've got a very slow leak of the green/blue drive fluid coming out right at the seem between the upper and lower casing.

I have a feeling its going to cost me to fix this up. so... Q#$%!@

I guess thats the risk boating at flood stage on the river. We probably did 100 miles between these two trips and we avoided countless other huge trees in the river, but we just had to nail this one... We really ramped off the thing too, going about 32 mph at the time, just launched off it dukes of hazard style.

Man tough break there mbw, sorry to hear that.

Won't your boat insurance cover the damage less the deductible?

Wow those barges are huge.. When you see them from the road (on the columbia) you don't appreciate how big they really at 1/2 mile away or more.

Any photos of how they did the engine compartment sound proofing? When the wind is louder than the motor, makes we wonder what I can improve upon!

As far as I can tell the sound proofing is all stock in this thing and doesn't look very impressive at all. I was always thinking I would rip out the factory stuff and put in something more serious later, but at this point I dont know if its worth the effort. It really just isn't loud enough that it annoys me. I may also just be a bit deaf at those frequencies.. who knows.

This boat is heavy enough that the very little chop on the river just doesnt do anything and you get that constant smooth wind in your face. Its smooth and freaky.
