So the first day out on the open water in our new 2009 185 sport. Dropped the boat in the water and took off having a blast with my family. We all took turns learning how to boat drove and understanding how the boat works. After a nice lunch on the river we started the boat back up as my father took the wheel, new to boating a yacht drove by and we didnt slow down for the wake. After hitting the wake pretty hard getting tossed around in our seats the boat went flat out dead. Gauges stuck, no power what so ever and only the trim worked. Made a call to my girlfriends dad and got towed in, MarineMax service guy was already there waiting at the dock. Sounds like a wire shortage but we are not really sure. All that I no of so far is that he decided to redo the starter wiring because he didnt like it but that wasnt the source of the problem. We learned some lessons out there but in the end still had fun, just keeping our fingers crossed on some successful boat trips.

Glad you got home safe.
In our 270 Select, we slow down significantly for ferry/yacht wakes. It's good to be prepared for those sudden conditions. Anyway, enjoy the rest of your summer!

Yeah he checked everything that he could while he was there. The fuse was blown so he replaced the fuse and started up the engine but it shorted out about 5 seconds later. Somewhere in that boat there must be a wire that is shorting.

On my first day out on mine, a chill ran down my spine as out in the middle of nowhere mine wouldn't crank. When I checked all of my controls, I realized I had the throttle lever slightly off the idle stop. I was relieved, and my wife was REALLY relieved lol.

Did that in my first week with my boat. Baaad feeling sitting there cranking. Funny how early on it is easy to not notice that you didn't hear the startup alarm.
