5.0 EFI Mercruiser w/Alpha 1 Drive
Hello everyone,

Just purchased my first boat, a 1998 210 BR Signature with a 5.0 EFI Mercruiser and Alpha 1. It's a beautiful, one owner boat with 325 hours and in great condition. It came with a EZ loader trailer that looks like new. The family and I took it to the lake this weekend and had a great time. Boating season is coming to a close, but we already are making plans for next summer. :smt043 If anyone has a 210 BR of this vintage, post up and give me your opinions and experiences.

Welcome to CSR. I looked everywhere for pictures of your new boat but I couldn't find any. There's still boatin' time left this year yet, take some action shots:grin:

Congrats on being a new owner and member of the Forum
Being a new boat owner you need the factory manuals to read up on for your system.
Outdrive oil need to be checked and you should never have to add any.
winterizing the motor , learn how or have it done before a freeze
Alpha drive has a impeller in the lower unit to supply cooling water, never start it without water and never run it with a temp over 175 degrees

Yep, I have a few pics on my iPhone from this weekend that I'll have to post up.

Great feedback. Where can I get a manual? I'm mechanically inclined and already have all the stuff needed for winterization and changing the engine and out drive oil. Regarding the engine temp, mine ran a steady 170 degrees on the lake this weekend. What temp should I expect it to run?

Enjoy it and have a good time..

We have one..........same set up as yours, it is a sweetheart. It has been garaged kept during the winter and is in perfect condition. I peck away on it during the winter detailing it, maintenance, ect. When we roll it out in the spring it looks like new. It's actually my wife's boat, I want to sell it but she won't let me. I just picked up my father's '88 Sea Ray 21 Laguna which he sold a few years before he passed away in 2001. I was lucky to be in the right place at the right time to get it. I'm going to do a complete rehab of it, poor 210 BR will be on the back burner.

Mine runs at 170 also, always has.

Thanks xravenx for the info. It's good to know that there are others out there that are as well cared for as mine. I just bought a custom fit Sunbrella cover to put her under for the winter. Garage is too small, but it will be under a shed. I love the smooth, soft ride on the lake. Taking it out again this weekend for a little cruising and fun.

Good to know you are aware that boats require some care. I know of many cases where first time owners buy a boat (sometimes new) and leave it sit out in the elements. Upholstery is not intended to be exposed to constant sunlight. Water filled bilges are going to eventually destroy the wood stringers. Always remember this rule.....boats don't wear out they die of neglect and abuse. My first Sea Ray had a better home than some children. When I sold it 17 years later I just lost $2000 in depreciation!! While driving around I see nice boats all the time sitting in the open with no cover. If you owned a 57 Chevy convertable would leave it in the yard with the top down?? Same difference.

Agree 100%. That's why I spent the money to get the Sunbrella. I'm just waiting for the cover to arrive along with a bunch of other boat maintenance stuff I bought. I figured that by spending the money up front, it will probably save me a lot more down the road. I've also been taking care of cars for a long time, so I know the value of good maintenance.

Every time I try to post pics, the forum says that I am 43.5KB over the limit. These are pics from an iPhone 4, so they can't be that large. Anybody know what I am doing wrong?

Missing the boat today since it is sunny, beautiful, and about 70 degrees here. Finally got a pic up in my sig...

Hi Derec,

Welcome aboard! I have a 1998 Searay Bowrider 210 as well. This season ends my 2nd summer enjoying what is also my first boat. I've done a few upgrades on my own since I've had it. Just look through my posts and you will see many with pictures, descriptions, etc. If you have any specific questions about your boat, feel free to ask. :)

Joel
