We are heading out tomorrow to Astoria OR for the Crab and wine fest. There will be several other yacht clubs in attendance and is a big deal around this area. The trip will be about 140 mile round trip down to the mouth of the Columbia River. While the Admirals are off tasting different wines, the "boat boys" will be in one of several pubs. 5 days of fun and meeting new people. I will post pics as I get them. The Alaskan Sea-Duction has a fresh wax and polish job, new radios and I can say looks the best since I resurrected the poor ol gal in Jacksonville FL.

The link to the festival is below.

May the winds be with you and the seas be calm!

Enjoy!

Good luck on your first voyage with your "new" boat, Tom.

OK here are the first pics! We left Kalama and stayed the night at some friends in Longview WA. Then Yesterday we went to Cathlament WA for the night. Dock fee was $18.00! With electric and water.....

Then today we cruised to Astoria. It cleared up, but the wind came up and I found out how the Alaskan Sea-Duction did in wind waves about 3-4 feet. Enginges purred along at a nice 1400 rpms at 11mph! Great day.

Have a great time at the Wine and Seafood fest! Sounds like a great trip!

I have a hot date with Redhead in Portland this weekend! (My wife!) We missed you in St. Helen's last weekend. Stayed the night at the public dock and ate up at the 'dike.

Beautiful pic. You and the Admiral did a beautiful job on her.. Enjoy the trip and be safe.

Looks awesome. Hope you have a great weekend!

I have updated the pics.

We headed back home last Sunday after a 4-day drunk. All the Admirals went to the festival, while the boat boys went to the "Wet Dawg" to sample some micro brew beer. When we headed home, the ride all the way back would be against a very strong current as the Columbia was high. When I left the harbor I was doing about 5.5mph. When I hit the current it dropped to 1.5mph. The current was clocking about 8mph or more. We had a decsion to make, go slow with about 2300 RPMs, just under step and take 6-7 hours to get back burning around 90 gallons or more of fuel or just get up on step and go.

Yep we got up on step, set into the sweet spot of about 3200 RPMs doing around 21MPH, at a 16-17gph rate per engine. We pulled into the slip 61 miles later, after 3 hours of running, burning 50 gallons per motor for 100 gallons. The total fuel consumption for this trip was 135 gallons at 0.88mpg. That hurt. Is this normal? We will wait until the river drops before making another long trip, that way we can put-put back on the flood tide which actuall reverses the flow of the river.

Very nice....thanks for sharing, Mike.

Looks like a fun time and thanks for sharing the pics, fuel costs suck but the price we pat for floating cottages :)
