So, I am getting ready to dive into my project for this weekend which is replacing the 1 1/2" sanitation hose from the forward head all of the way to the Vacuflush Generator. The toughest partr I see is that I have to remove some or all of the sealant that is around the hoses and wires penetrating the firewall so I can remove is hose and replace it.

Can anyone recommend a product that is typically used to re-seal this with the proper fire rating? I was planning on a fire stopping product that we use in construction for 2-hour rated wall penetrations. As always, I appreciate any advice.

Good question. Original sealent from SeaRay on my boat looks like cylicon. Think if you had a fire your boat would not last 2 hours. I assume the sealent is there more to keep out smells from one area to the other. There may be a fire code for boat material but I have never seen or heard of one.

A call to the Coast Guard might get you some answers or directions where to go.

I was surprised at how easy it was to replace the hose through the firewall. I broke the seal by twisting then I connected the new hose with a coupling and pushed it through. The entire job took about 4 hours by myself.

It's just silicone.

How long do you plan on staying on your boat if it's on fire? Me... About 2-1/2 seconds. 1/2 second to throw the 7 year old overboard, 1/2 second to throw the 4 year old, one second to convince my wife that the water won't be too cold, 1/2 second for me to jump... Come to think of it, it might take me a bit longer to convince my wife about the water temperature -- besides, she'll probably want to "ease" into the water by way of the ladder.

Edit: I started typing this about a half hour ago... But, then the aforementioned kids came into the room...... And not "quietly", I might add......

Thanks, I should have known that this was just a sealant since it isn't red in color like fire stop products.

Is all now working? I may use your head at the Halloween Cruise!

Everything is working! After the raftup I replaced the gasket so the ball doesn't leak so it even hold water and the vacuflush doesn't pump when the water leaks out. See you on Friday at Ptown?

love the part about convincing the wife to jump.....

How sealed is the bilge bulkhead? Is it sealed completely, meaning perfectly tight is the goal? Or is it, we put some sealer here and there? MM
