Hi All, Kidde Fire Extinguishers have a recall You can go to the website or call them and give them the serial # of yours. They will replace them for free. They will still work but they told me it will be hard to press or squeeze them. I have 3 of them the new ones on on their way.
    Please pass it along.

Yes----- very simple procedure, I had three that were under recall. Filled out form on line and received all three within 3 weeks.
Different form for "jetski" style extinguishers and I still have not received the "jetski" style and it has been over two months.

I had six Kidde extinguishers in my home, all different dates and models. Only three were subject to the recall. Received the last one yesterday, roughly 5 weeks after submitting.

I still need to do my marine units in the Spring...

I was pleasantly surprised that the replacements appear to be their "pro line" with metal handles. Very nice.

Kidde was easy to work with. If you have 5 or more they will speak with you live. You will need to provide the serial numbers and model numbers for the fire extinguishers. Very small print on the bottom of the label on the extinguishers.

We had four that were purchased about 2 years ago that were recalled & replaced. Kidde will send replacements and then you are asked to send the recalled units back in the same shipping boxes with the prepaid Fedex label they provide.

Good company to deal with. Good idea to check all of your fire extinguishers. I wouldn't want to find out the hard way it was a recalled unit.

For what it's worth they do expect you to return the defective units. Lesson learned from me - make notes of which are covered by the recall and which are not when you submit. It's easier than trying to sort it out weeks later. ha.

I received a replacement for my jet ski and it was bigger than the original one. I just put it in the other container and changed the cover to show where the fire extinguisher was.

I submitted for two that were in the recall several months ago and still haven’t heard anything.
This reminded me to follow up.

I literally just got done boxing up the ones to ship back.
4 in total - 3 marine and 1 from the house - pretty easy procedure.

I gave the kids a lesson on the old ones before sending them back. Take advantage of the opportunity, nothing like “hands on” training!

I submitted for 5 and they sent me 8! Took about 2 weeks to get them. Funny thing is these were already replaced from another recall back in 2015 and they sent me extras that time also.

This is the first time they’ve asked for the old ones back, which I haven’t gotten around to doing yet.

Got my replacements Tuesday & FedEx picked up the bad ones Friday. The driver said she was picking up a lot of them in our area of Florida.

I have this issue--my 1200SUV has a 2 3/4" diameter cylinder affixed in the under-seat battery compartment, the Kidde replacement model is too big, and so far I haven't found an alternate model from Kidde or any other manufacturer. In which "other container" are you stowing yours, and how is it secured?

Has anyone else run into this problem, and how did you solve it?

Update on PWC style to fit canisters/molded mounting compartments where the metal handles may be problematic: after a ton more searching and finding some models that appear to be compatible, I spoke to a local dealer. They'll be receiving First Alert PWC Fire Extinguisher 1.4 lb this week after months of challenges and back ordering. Looks to be product number 18-9893, 12.5" high and 3.06" diameter. It may not fit my canister (2 7/8" diameter), but thought I'd share it for any others with different mounting arrangements.

Of note: the associate mentioned there may be a new USCG regulation in 2018 requiring even PWC extinguishers to have a gauge. I haven't found verbiage to support that--I accompanied a nephew to the Boater Safety Certification Course in January and didn't see or hear such a detail in the documentation or live training--but will keep looking, as I prefer to stay in compliance.

Overton's is showing the lowest price at around $15 US, with others in the $25 - $30 range; all are out of stock as of today, but hopefully production is beginning to catch up.
