Just got my new toy that I have been lusting after for 5 years. It wasnt until they put the hardtop on in '08 that I really fell in love with this boat. Mine has 6.2 Horizons which I didnt know you could even get in this boat. The boat is loaded with Raymarine electronics(C120)with Radar and Fishfinder, Vessel View along with Kohler genny, and teak floor and steps. I picked the boat up in Hyannis, Mass and took it 225 miles down to Staten Island, NY. It was great out in the open water even though we had head seas all the way to Mattituck, LI where we stopped for the night. 8 hours to do 110 miles! The next day was smooth sailing bringing us the rest of the way back through LI Sound to Staten Island in 5 hours. We averaged about a little under a mile per gallon and everything went pretty smooth. I had a good friend come with me and it was a great experience. I learned a lot in two days! I have been getting more familiar with the chartplotter which took me some time to figure out. I must say the broker at Marine Max in Lindenhurst LI who handled the transaction treated me as if I bought the boat new from him. He had a tech meet us at the boat in Mattituck to check an alarm that went off on the Vessel View which turned out to be low voltage alarm from a battery that had to be brought up to full charge. The boat is a great step up for me as I own a '93 Weekender now that I share with my brother and father in Waretown,NJ. This one is virtually in my backyard at Great Kills Yacht Club in SI. I am loving it so far.:smt038

Congrats on the new boat!!! Love to see some pics if you could get them up. I just put Teak floors in y boat last weekend and would love to see yours!

Congratulations. That is really a nice boat.

I am surprised at the 6.2's also. They didn't show those as options in either 08 or 09.

Congrats, I am taking an 09 for a test ride this weekend. Can't wait to check it out in person.

The original specs sais it has 2xc120's. There is only one. From the looks of the helm, I dont think you cold squeeze 2 of those 12 inch displays. What do you think?

Test drive was awsome. The boat is a tank. Very stable, tracks great. Compared to my 260, docking was a piece of cake!! It has the "fly by wire" throttle/transmission controls (DTS?). Very smooth and easy to engage the transmissions..

you can definitely fit 2 x c120 Mine has the Vessel View and the C120 and theres still room for one more C120

I took delivery of a new 09 Amberjack last week!!!! Love the boat. I do have a question for those that have an Amberjack. My boat has a 3 battery setup. The perco switches have a port on off switch and a starboard on off switch. Niether have a "both" selection which is what I am used to using. How are the batteries wired? It seems that the port switch has 2 batteries and the starboard has one. It seems that the genny is on the port side as well as most house items. The starboard seems to have the amp tied to its battery. Does this seem right? It would make sense to me to have nothing on the starboard but the engine, but that does not seem to be the case. I'd love to have one battery completly isolated, so I could turn it off while on the hook, always leaving a fresh starting battery. Or even, have the gennerator designated to its own battery so I can always get something started. Just doesn't seem right to me how it is wired. Comments?

RjVA - I've just purchased a 2000 290 AJ and your batt setup sounds very much like mine. I'm a noob to this size and class of boat so I'm afraid I won't be much help yet. My last rig was a 2000 Kencraft 190C. Sold it 4 years ago and I'm completely pumped to be back on the water but have sooooo much to learn. Have you fished your AJ much yet?

Anyone else fished the AJ setup much? I'm wondering if outriggers are worth purchasing for this rig or if I should work around the lack of a bait spread that wide.

Also, could anyone point me to good AJ links in these forums? Thanks in advance!

I'm a beaming proud Sea Ray owner now! It's no Carolina Classic 35 (my Dad's last boat) but it seems perfect for me and the wife right now.

Tight lines and drinks to all!
