After much work, it's finally floating! Now if I can get the fresh water fixed!

She looks very nice.

One tip for ya....the burgundy insert in the sides of the radar arch look faded in the picture. Mine looked the same and I found a really close match in a spray can at OSH. I masked very carefully and sprayed away. It came out really nice. I did it 2 years ago and it still looks great.

No one outside of CA know what OSH is! I read that somewhere you posted on the same subject a while back and thought "What the hell does OSH stand for" I finally looked it up and found it. Do you know the name of the paint so I can find it around here? Maybe Lowes or True Value.

Glad yoou asked the question I have the same color on my 88 and have been looking for a match also.
Your boat looks great. All your hard work shows.
Regarding your water pump, mine is mounted near the ice maker as well.

You need to put you info in your signature, I keep track of they people I see with 88-89 340's that way I know who to ask when I need something answered. Your the second to confirm the water pump location, I think it's a pickup tube issue, either clogged or leaking internal. Thanks!

Great looking boat, I love the classic lines of the 80's vintage Sea Rays.

As for the water it's floating in.......holy CRAP!!!!!
Here's the deal with the water, BAD DAY to put a boat in yesterday. Winds 17-23+ MPH blowing from the east, the only open direction at the marina, and heavy rains all night. Check out the clear blue sky! This was after it "cleared up". This picture was from around 5:30PM as I was getting ready to go home. At 9:30AM when I went in you would have seen some whitecaps. The waves were coming over the swim platform and splashing off the transom. I even had water come in through the transom door! The guy at the marina said "I you can park it today, you probably won't have any issues unless theres a hurricane!" The water was nice and churned up.
Or, for the kids, " Thats not water, it's Chocolate Milk!!"

I do not remember the brand of the paint but I will look for the can when I clean the garage this weekend.

Actually, I'm not sure if the paint I used was an exact match or not. I saw a burgandy color in the store and it was close enough. Check Home Depot or Lowe's and you could probably find something close.

BTW You need a swim platform!

What kind of paint was it, just spray enamel? What I really need is new deck and boot stripes!!!:thumbsup::wow::smt043

Yes. It was just a rattle can of spray enamel. The key of course is the prep.

Have you still not found stripe tape? I can check again with my guy. He is sometimes slow to respond but he will eventually get to me.

I decided to wait for next year. I'm pretty sure I can get the 3M stuff, I just need to get the "340" made. I might just get Tom at Pinnacle Signs to see if he can make me some. Does the Petit Easypoxy come out glossy, or rough like bottom paint?

Hey Shawn and Tob:
I just aft of my windscreen (on the radar arch) I have a stripe/tape as tall as the windscreen and it's all cracked - it literally looks like that crackled look people do on picture frames and stuff. It also runs and makes black streaks. Not sure what to do with it. You can't tell how bad it is from 15' away but it bugs me. Questions...
1. how would I get this crap OFF? It is BAKED, and I mean BAKED on!
2. Would that epoxy you mention work here? This is on gel-coat so what type of prep work would be required.

Sorry about the hi-jack!

Here's a better shot of it but still can't really tell how crappy it looks. To make matters worse, it's outlined in that awful TEAL. The last vestige of TEAL on this boat (other than a carpeted keel storage area under a hatch in the forward companionway)

Ron,

There has been several post about removing old tape stripes. I never have much luck with searches so I do not know whre to look.

If you want tape I can try and get it for you.

This ain't your typical tape or boat name. This stuff is dried out and crackled like he Mojave dessert. Not sure if any of the conventional measures will remove it. Guess I could try the hair dryer.

The stripes on my deck are probably the same way only smaller. It's so cracked thats it's seperating. Looks as if someone crinkled up newspaper and dabbed it on in areas. I was thinking of two things, They have stuff called vinyl off, don't know if it works, but makes bold claims. Or use the eraser wheel for the drill. After the eraser you would want to wetsand out the imperfections. Thats what I was thinking of doing on mine anyhow.

Ron:
I know what you mean about the stripes. I replaced the two just above the waterline a couple of years ago, and it was a real pain removing them. Paper-thin and if I pulled just a wee bit too hard it would tear off and I'd have to get the edge re-started again. Terrible pita...

I still have the ones above the gunnel to replace from the arch all the way forward, and I'm seriously considering just going over the old ones. They're so paper thin to begin with, and the replacement striping is a perfect match in width.

Rondds,
Its a long shot but you might want to try some Easy Off oven cleaner and a single edge razor blade (or a really good single edge scrapper) I just replaced the boot stripe on my 88 340 and used that combination to remove the original. I can't tell you if the Easy Off was the reason but I started by spraying the edge and letting it soak for a couple of minutes and the old tape came off very easily so I did not fool around with the process. It seemed to break the glue bond as there was little left to clead up.

As for tape I found Jamestown Distributors to have a wide selection of colors and sizes, but I think a bit expensive. I paid $35 for a 50 ft roll of 2" wide.

Good Luck
Paul
