After three years I finally started doing my own engine service. $500.00 in filters and oil. It took almost all day today, but the engines and genset started up on the first try.

Changed all engine, tranny and genset oil, filters and fuel filters. Filled the filters prior to install and the engines. She took 11 gallons.

I saved over $2,000.00 compared to having it done. Yea for me.

Good for you! Heck, if I did not do my own maint my oil change would cost $500 for the dealer to do it. If you saved over $2000 you are on top of the game!

I don't mind paying a mechanic money for actual repairs that require skill, knolwedge and training but I can't believe they get away with charging over $2000 for an oil change that costs $500 in supplies!

Man, you diesel guys have some serious overhead!

Good Job! You doing it again next year? It'll take less time the second time.

Fantastic, you also now have the satisfaction of knowing that the job was done right.

You may want to consider sending oil samples out for analysis. I send it out every time, probably overkill, but for the cost, I like having the data.

And besides saving the money, there's no greasy footprints on yor cockpit carpet or foil seals from the jugs on your floor just waiting to get sucked into a bilge pump :smt013
