What do you guys tie the front fender to when docking? The rear cleat is positioned perfectly but there is nothing between that and the bow cleat to hang the front fender. Any suggestions?

Gary

Gary, darn good question. I have the same (or similar) problem but I typically tie mine to where the front bimini strap clips into the stainless eye on the deck. the fender/line hangs down nicely from there just forward of the windshield. the biggest issue is pushing the line thru the small eye when the bimini is connected. i was thinking about attaching some sort of stainless fender hanger gizmo in that area but decided against it. just didnt want to drill a hole, however small, in the side of the deck/hull.

I rarely tie up to the dock, but when I do need a fender, I also use the eyelet where the bimini strap goes just in front of the windsheild

I too use the forward bimini/ storm top attatchment. It is in a perfect place. My personal rule is that you can never have too big a bumper between you and the dock/ other boats.

Could you run a line between the two cleats and then tie 2 fenders at the best locations between the cleats??? just a thought.

the 185 has a cleat mid-ship. I usualy ust that (with a large diameter fender) and the cleat at the bow. then tie off so the boat rests against the large fender. the fender on the bow is for "just in case".

Thanks guys. I too have been tying up to the bimini eye. I think what I'll do is use a thinner line on the front fender so that it will fit through the eye more easily. Anyone foresee any problems with this solution?

Just don't use that eyelet to tie off the boat. If it's just the fender, it will be fine. And if you're going to the trouble to put a smaller line on the one fender, why not attach a new line and clip combo on that fender, and make it to the correct length. Then all you need to do is clip it on/off when you need it.

Bimini eyelet here as well. My fender line just barely fits in - but it does.

I also use suction cups... fastest way to attach and holds well.
